The 2024-2025 parent-teacher conference of Nam Viet Primary, Secondary and High School, Ho Chi Minh City with thousands of parents attending took place on October 12.

Before the dialogue with parents, Mr. Nguyen Duc Quoc, the school representative, suggested: "If there is anything wrong with us, I hope parents do not hesitate, do not avoid, but frankly point it out to the school. Only then will the school know where to fix it, what to do to improve. In education, we must be frank with each other to improve together."
In response to this suggestion, a parent reported that her child often encountered unhappy and unpleasant security guards when parking their vehicles at school every day. This affected the start of a new day for the children.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Quoc thanked the parents for their opinions and admitted that there were cases of elderly security guards with unpleasant attitudes that affected students.
"The school's supervisory board is here, I suggest reviewing the security team, if necessary, half of them should be replaced. Any staff who do not work well should be fired, not retained, and replaced with enthusiastic and dynamic people. At least two people should be replaced first," said this manager.
According to Mr. Quoc, in schools or even companies, many stages and departments operate very smoothly, but as soon as you enter the gate, you may encounter a security guard who is frowning and annoyed... When you hear feedback and suggestions from parents, you must make adjustments immediately.
"As an educator, I have to bow to the students first. If I work as an educator and my face looks like this - Mr. Quoc made a gesture of looking up to the sky - how can I create sympathy, how can students respect me?" he said.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Quoc also directly assigned a manager with the same request: "From tomorrow, you will be in charge of the school gate. Anyone who is not working actively will have their contract terminated immediately. The staff working for a salary needs to bring good things to the school. It is unacceptable to bring trouble to students and parents."

"The best way to educate children is not to send them to extra classes"
A mother with two children studying at the school discussed that the school organizes experiential tourism activities that usually last 3 days and 2 nights, so she does not feel secure letting her children participate. This parent also believes that there should be more life skills activities for students.
Although parents did not ask, Mr. Quoc revealed: "When schools organize travel experiences, there is a percentage of compensation. It can be 10-20%, the total amount is very large, there is no way to "run away" because the organizing unit will give it anyway."

When organizing this activity, Mr. Quoc said, the school considered which tour had a price that was not too high but had the highest and best efficiency, such as ensuring that students had safe food, stayed in safe places, and went to useful places, not letting profits "blind" them and organize them carelessly.
Regarding the commission from the organizing unit, the school representative informed that they pay the teachers in charge to accompany and support and take care of the students. The remaining money is put into the school's scholarship fund and contributed to the Vu A Dinh scholarship fund.
The school representative confirmed that the experiential tourism activities are completely voluntary. If parents are comfortable, they can let their children participate, otherwise, they can’t. Parents can choose this or another program depending on which program best suits their wishes.
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Quoc, the best way for students to learn is not to go to extra classes (Illustration: Hoai Nam).
Regarding enhancing life skills for students, Nguyen Duc Quoc believes that, in addition to activities at school, life skills education needs to start from the family. Parents need to boldly "let go" of their children, not "keep" them too much. Let children do things, practice, interact, solve problems...
In particular, this person emphasized that to equip children with life skills, they need space and time, not just knowing how to study and study.
"The best way to educate students is to limit extra classes, or better yet, not to take them at all. We should stop extra classes and let our children stay home to play, explore, and discover on their own. Giving children the opportunity to learn and discover on their own is the best way for students," said Mr. Nguyen Duc Quoc.
