Developing the Vietnam-UK Strategic Partnership increasingly effective and extensive

During a recent phone call, the two Foreign Ministers of Vietnam and the United Kingdom expressed their satisfaction with the increasingly effective and extensive development of the Vietnam-UK Strategic Partnership in recent times.

Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and UK Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Development David Cameron agreed that the two sides should continue to increase delegation exchanges, especially high-level delegations, effectively deploy existing cooperation mechanisms such as the Strategic Dialogue, Defense Policy Dialogue, Joint Trade Cooperation Committee (JETCO), etc.; build and effectively implement the Vietnam-UK Action Plan for the 2024-2026 period; and strengthen coordination and mutual support at regional and multilateral organizations and forums.

Regarding economic cooperation, Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam supports the UK in the process of joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), believing that this is a new driving force for the two countries to promote cooperation in trade and investment, and promote economic connectivity at the regional level.

The two Ministers agreed to continue to fully and effectively implement the Vietnam-UK Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA) to contribute to each country's economic development goals.

Appreciating the results of cooperation in recent times, Minister David Cameron affirmed that the UK attaches importance to strengthening the strategic partnership with Vietnam; emphasizing that the UK will continue to accompany and support Vietnam in developing a sustainable economy; and suggested that the two countries continue to promote cooperation on migration, immigration management, and prevention and combat of illegal migration.

Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam will actively promote substantive cooperation programs between ASEAN and the UK in its role as the coordinator of ASEAN-UK relations for the 2024-2027 period.

Regarding the East Sea issue, the two sides affirmed their support for maintaining peace, stability, freedom of navigation and aviation security, and resolving disputes in the East Sea by peaceful means, on the basis of international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).
