Comrade Ha Van Thanh - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: There are many ethnic groups living together in the commune, of which the Muong ethnic group accounts for 75%. In order to change the traditional, small-scale, unfocused farming habits with low economic efficiency, the Party Committee and the commune government have developed plans and re-planned production with the goals of developing agricultural and forestry production, focusing on raising large livestock in the direction of commodity production, building infrastructure to serve production. At the same time, focusing on implementing many synchronous solutions such as: Introducing hybrid rice, hybrid corn, high-quality rice into cultivation; developing poultry, promoting agricultural extension to support production development; focusing on developing tea trees, combining with processing to increase product value...
Van Mieu is a locality with many potentials and advantages in developing agriculture and forestry. To improve production efficiency, the commune always focuses on agricultural extension work, opening training courses on cultivation and animal husbandry techniques for people, building intensive farming models, supporting production development through directing planting according to the right crop schedule, providing seeds, fertilizers, etc.
Many new models in agriculture have been widely developed such as: Growing grapefruit, oranges, raising chickens combined with developing the forest economy... bringing in income from 100-200 million VND/year. The commune has also effectively implemented projects on raising buffaloes, beef cattle, high-quality crossbred cattle, promoting large-scale livestock raising in a semi-industrial direction, increasing product value, bringing in income, and improving the quality of life of the people.
Along with that, with the stable tea harvesting area of households at about 270 hectares, the commune actively propagates and mobilizes people to raise awareness, change farming practices; creates conditions for people to participate in training courses on pest control and intensive tea cultivation. To improve the value and quality of products, from traditional tea cultivation, people have clearly changed both their thinking and farming methods towards safety.
Households have actively applied new scientific and technical advances with many modern machines such as rolling machines, rotating machines, vacuum machines... On average, 1 hectare of production according to safe processes brings in twice the income compared to traditional tea production, with diverse tea products to meet customer tastes.
Promoting the strengths of the locality and at the same time promoting and consuming Muong specialty agricultural products, helping to increase income for members, the Women's Union of Van Mieu commune has established a "Introducing and promoting Muong specialties" association with 5 members since October 2021. While selecting typical agricultural products and searching for and developing new products based on market demand and linking consumption, the association is currently introducing and selling the following products: Pickled bamboo shoots, pickled cassava leaves, chili bamboo shoots, dried tea, dried bamboo shoots, radishes, hill chickens, sticky rice...
