Developing green, sustainable agriculture

Thai Binh is one of the provinces with rapid industrial development but always prioritizes agricultural development, especially green agriculture in a modern, sustainable, safe and environmentally friendly direction. The green agricultural mindset is creating a new wind in the agricultural sector, farmers and rural areas, contributing to the implementation of the target of double-digit economic growth and the best completion of the targets of the Resolution of the 20th Provincial Party Congress.

Large-scale, modern agriculture

According to Mr. Do Quy Phuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in order to develop green, modern and sustainable agriculture, in recent times the province has focused on planning, reorganizing production, developing commodity production; at the same time, attracting enterprises to link production with farmers, thereby increasing the value of rice production and many key agricultural products; focusing on accumulating, concentrating land and linking product consumption. To date, the whole province has accumulated more than 5,676 hectares of agricultural land with the participation of 1,700 farming households, creating a premise for developing large-scale, specialized agriculture in the direction of commodities. In 2024, the total area of agricultural production linkage will reach nearly 10,370 hectares, an increase of 362 hectares compared to 2023. The linkage models between farmers and enterprises help ensure stable output and reduce market risks. Production units have put into use modern machinery and equipment, automatic irrigation and drainage technology and smart production management systems, improving productivity and reducing farming costs. Currently, the province has about 200 rice milling facilities, of which 20 companies and 4 cooperatives are large-scale, applying modern, automated production lines, contributing to improving product quality and meeting export standards.

Green agriculture - inevitable trend

Over the past 50 years, ThaiBinh Seed Group Joint Stock Company has affirmed its position as one of the leading enterprises in the field of research, production and supply of high-quality rice varieties that adapt to climate change. With the mission of "Sowing seeds to build golden harvests", ThaiBinh Seed constantly innovates and applies high technology to agricultural production. ThaiBinh Seed has invested in a modern seed production factory system, international standard cold storage and automatic rice processing lines. Large-scale field models have been deployed, applying synchronous mechanization and automatic irrigation and drainage technology, helping to increase productivity and reduce costs for farmers.

Ms. Tran Thi Tra, General Director of ThaiBinh Seed, said: In recent years, ThaiBinh Seed has cooperated with schools and research institutes at home and abroad to access new application technologies, creating rice varieties that adapt to climate change, are resistant to pests and diseases, and have high yields. These rice varieties have helped farmers reduce farming costs, increase productivity and product value such as BC15, TBR225, TBR97, Nep A Sao, TBR89... with characteristics that adapt well to climate change. In addition, ThaiBinh Seed promotes activities to accompany farmers such as transferring advanced farming techniques, organic production models, linking production nationwide to consume products and applying digital technology in agriculture. In 2024, ThaiBinh Seed received the award for the project to transform the rice value chain to respond to climate change and develop sustainably in the Mekong Delta region.

In addition, Thai Binh province is also strongly developing organic agricultural models in a circular and closed direction. A typical example is Thai Binh Organic Farm Cooperative, Minh Hoa Commune (Hung Ha). With the motto "Clean from farm to table", the Cooperative has applied a biosafety livestock model, using biological bedding to treat waste, combined with organic farming. After 3 years of testing, the Cooperative's products have been positively received by the market.

Mr. Hoang Quoc Toan, Director of the Cooperative, shared: The Cooperative develops a chain production model including raising chickens, growing mushrooms, fruit trees and organic grapes. This model not only helps increase economic value but also creates opportunities for local people to visit, learn and replicate the sustainable production model.

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tho, Chairman of Minh Hoa Commune People's Committee, this is a bright spot in the local green agricultural development. The commune government is actively promoting and mobilizing people to learn and replicate the model.

Developing sustainable agriculture

Developing green agriculture not only helps ensure a sustainable ecosystem but also creates safe food, helping to increase economic efficiency on the same unit of cultivated area. Therefore, in the economic development strategy, Thai Binh province always identifies agriculture as an important pillar, contributing to ensuring national food security.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Chien, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in order to complete the targets according to the Resolution of the 20th Provincial Party Congress, successfully achieve the target of double-digit economic growth, Thai Binh's agricultural sector continues to develop green, sustainable agriculture towards industrialization, modernization, improving quality and efficiency associated with market demand. Strongly, synchronously and effectively implement tasks and solutions for restructuring and developing the agricultural sector. Continue to effectively implement mechanisms and policies on land accumulation and concentration; policies to support the linkage of production and consumption of agricultural products; mechanisms and policies to support the purchase of transplanters and drying equipment systems to serve agricultural production in the province. Build concentrated agricultural production areas, apply high technology. Prioritize the expansion of agricultural production scale according to VietGAP standards and organic agriculture to increase economic efficiency on the same unit of cultivated area. Focus on building agricultural product brands, expanding the province's agricultural product consumption areas; creating industry and regional linkages to promote the development of green, sustainable, efficient, and highly competitive agricultural production.
