Care and support for members and women in difficult circumstances

The Women's Union of Thuy Duyen Commune (Thai Thuy) connected with benefactors to give gifts to families in difficult circumstances on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025.

After nearly 9 months of living in a solid house built with the support of the Thai Thuy District Women's Union and relatives, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhi, a poor household in Le Cu village, Thuy Duyen commune, feels warm and secure. Recalling the first days of construction, Ms. Nhi emotionally shared: For many years, I had to live alone in a dilapidated tiled-roof house. Not only did I receive attention and financial support from the District Women's Union and relatives, on the day the house was built, relatives and neighbors contributed their efforts to dismantle the old house, joining hands to help me have a solid, clean and beautiful home. I am very grateful and feel loved and shared in my old age.

Ms. Do Thi Phuong Lan, President of the Thai Thuy District Women's Union, said: In response to Mrs. Nhi's difficult circumstances, the District Women's Union has allocated 40 million VND from the fund to support poor women with addresses, the Thuy Duyen Commune Women's Union and the Le Cu Village Women's Union mobilized cadres, members, organizations and individuals to support more than 90 million VND; relatives supported 30 million VND to build a warm home for her. After more than 3 months of construction, the ^40m2 house was completed and put into use with a total construction cost of more than 160 million VND. This meaningful activity demonstrates the spirit of mutual love, helping members and women in difficult circumstances to rise up and stabilize their lives.

In Quynh Phu, in order to motivate and empower members and women in difficult circumstances to rise up in life, the District Women's Union has implemented many practical activities from donating charity shelters, donating necessities to supporting loans and accompanying startups. Thanks to that, in 2024 alone, the union's grassroots units helped 58 households escape poverty and 70 households escape near-poverty. Ms. Dinh Thi Hong Thai, Chairwoman of the District Women's Union, said: In 2024, the Union supported the construction of a charity shelter for poor women in Quynh My commune worth 30 million VND; launched and effectively maintained 179 models of turning waste into money with a total revenue of 122.5 million VND in 10 months of 2024. On the occasion of Lunar New Year and some special occasions during the year, the Women's Union at all levels presented nearly 1,000 gifts, 1,195 kg of rice from the charity rice jar model, and 439 health insurance cards to members, women, and children in difficult circumstances. In addition, they supported 5,750 eggs and nutritious meals for kindergartens, and donated funds for the godmother program worth nearly 376.5 million VND.

To help members and women start businesses and stabilize their lives, the District Women's Union coordinated with the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development and the Transaction Office of the Social Policy Bank of Quynh Phu District to provide loans to 5,091 member households and women until the end of September 2024 with a total capital of over 270 billion VND. At the same time, the Union directed the grassroots association to survey poor households headed by women, develop plans and solutions to help poor households develop their economies. In the coming time, the Union will continue to maintain activities aimed at disadvantaged members and expand the movement of women helping each other develop the economy, supporting women to access capital sources; at the same time, connect with units and philanthropists to support and donate to have resources to care for women in difficult circumstances.

Ms. Ngo Thi Hong Hue, Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union, said: In the past time, the association's bases have effectively maintained models such as: love rice jars, pairs of love leaves, saving plastic piggy banks, love porridge pots, godmothers, helping poor women have addresses... Up to now, the provincial women's support fund has developed 2,300 members in 40 communes to participate in borrowing capital with a total disbursed revolving capital of 43.5 billion VND to help poor women and women in difficult circumstances rise up to develop the economy. With appropriate lending policies, priority is given to supporting loans for poor and near-poor women, women who are household heads, to invest in production and business, increase income, improve family life, and contribute to limiting the situation of "black credit" in the locality. Along with that, the association at all levels continues to help members and poor women develop the economy in many forms such as: giving seedlings, helping with labor days, lending production materials... Thanks to that, in 2024, the whole province has 730 poor and near-poor households that are helped by the association at all levels to escape poverty and near-poverty.

With continuous efforts, the Women's Union at all levels has been playing an important role in improving the lives of its members and women, helping them escape poverty and stabilize their lives. In the coming time, the Women's Union at all levels will continue to promote the spirit of solidarity, expand support programs and accompany its members and women on the path of economic development and building an increasingly better life.
