Developing heritage economy, green economy and digital economy is an inevitable and sustainable trend being implemented in many places around the world. In Thua Thien Hue, with its diverse heritage system and landscape, this development orientation will promote the exploitation of inherent cultural strengths.

On December 6, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center in collaboration with the Korean Institute of Architecture and Urban Studies and SMC Hue Co., Ltd. organized an international forum with the theme "Some orientations for developing heritage economy, green economy and digital economy in Thua Thien Hue".
At the forum, experts discussed local economic development orientations such as heritage economy, digital economy and green economy, contributing to creating a foundation for development, promoting digital transformation, developing digital data and cultural industry.
According to experts, heritage economy will play a key role in building Hue into a modern and sustainably developed city; transforming historical and cultural values into economic values, which will be the source of reviving heritage, contributing in turn to the conservation and promotion of heritage values.
Mr. Hoang Viet Trung, Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, said that Hue has outstanding advantages in developing a green economy and digital economy based on cultural heritage.
The unique combination of heritage types creates development opportunities intertwined with tourism, culture, education, technology and creativity, not only preserving and promoting heritage but also creating new momentum for socio-economic development, contributing to the sustainable construction and development of Hue.
The Law on Cultural Heritage (amended) has just been passed by the National Assembly (effective from July 1, 2025). important step forward in improving the effectiveness of management, protection and promotion of cultural heritage.
Many problems have been adjusted, creating the most favorable legal corridor for the use and exploitation of cultural heritage, contributing to the creation of new cultural values, enriching the treasure of Vietnamese cultural heritage. This will contribute to the sustainable development of cultural heritage and promote the development of local heritage economy.
In recent years, Thua Thien Hue has pioneered the application of digital technology to promote heritage values, bringing many economic and cultural benefits. Examples include: 3D scanning of important architectural works such as Thai Hoa Palace, Kien Trung Palace, etc. to both store data and serve to reproduce in a digital environment.
Building digital space and derivative products, digital identification for antiquities, creating digital space on museehue.vn and derivative products such as Imperial Capital Archaeology. Digital museum and 3D mapping with organizing light shows and interactive activities on heritage platforms, attracting the attention of domestic and foreign tourists.
Virtual reality VR and augmented reality AR contribute to recreating lost structures and allowing visitors to explore heritage with modern technology. Together with the heritage database system, storing information about tangible and intangible structures, helping to manage more effectively...
“Economic development from heritage values not only brings direct economic benefits but also contributes to preserving and promoting cultural and historical values. Models such as exploitation at Thai Y Vien, the waterway system, experiential tourism on Thuong Thanh, heritage education and organizing cultural festivals have demonstrated the great potential of Hue heritage in building a sustainable economy,” Mr. Hoang Viet Trung emphasized.
According to Mr. Reigh Young Bum, Director of the Korea Institute of Architecture and Urban Studies, the theme of heritage economic development, green economy and digital economy in Hue addresses one of the most important challenges facing our time. To preserve precious cultural heritage while promoting the local economy, a creative approach is needed that combines green economy and information technology.
Mr. Reigh Young Bum also raised the issue of developing and designing urban spaces based on Hue's cultural heritage. Specifically, the creation of a Hue museum complex with the connection of cultural destinations in Hue Citadel including Hue Imperial City - the current Hue Royal Antiquities Museum - the new museum at the Imperial Academy - and the headquarters of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center.
This will contribute to expanding the creativity of Hue people through historical and cultural activities, expanding the cultural ecosystem and bringing attraction to local tourism. At the same time, it will contribute to promoting exchanges between schools and different creative groups in the local community through culture and art education.
“The network-like historical and cultural spaces will increase the cultural density of the entire city, creating a spatial flow where people can experience various historical and cultural experiences while walking. When the network-like Hue Historical Museum shopping center is formed, the livable value for the people in the city and the memorable value for tourists outside the city will increase,” said the Director of the Korea Institute of Architecture and Urban Studies.
Experts attending the forum also presented models of heritage economic development, green economy, and digital economy in a number of cities around the world; including localities in Korea with many cultural heritages and similarities with Hue to give suggestions and recommendations for Hue.
On this occasion, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center and the Korean Institute of Architecture and Urban Studies signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation to implement a research program and provide highly specialized reconstruction design consultation to develop diverse models of historical ecological architecture, cultural industry, tourism services, etc. at Hue monuments.
