Develop many unique types of tourism
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Tran Trung Hieu said: As the central district of Hanoi, Tay Ho has a lot of potential and advantages for tourism development. The area around West Lake with a long history has formed many traditional crafts, with a dense concentration of valuable historical relics, along with the technical infrastructure system around West Lake that the city has invested in has contributed to increasing the value, making Tay Ho district the most prominent scenic spot of the capital.
Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Tran Trung Hieu delivered the opening speech at the conference.
According to Mr. Tran Trung Hieu, the district has 126 accommodation establishments with 5,157 rooms, accounting for 3.4% of the total number of accommodation establishments in the city (including 02 5-star hotels, 01 4-star hotel, 01 3-star hotel, 02 4-5 star luxury tourist apartments) and is currently implementing 04 5-star hotel projects, 01 3-star hotel project. Tay Ho District is also famous for its diverse and unique cuisine, typically products associated with the Tay Ho lotus brand.
In addition, based on Decision No. 02/2024/QD-UBND dated January 10, 2024 of the City People's Committee on promulgating regulations on management and exploitation of West Lake, the West Lake area will have 12 types of services allowed to operate. These are tourism boat, boat, canoe, water bike business on the lake (no overnight stay); passenger transport by water vehicle (in combination with international and domestic travel companies in the area); boating services (including sup rowing, kayaking, peritxia boat, dragon boat rowing, traditional boat); windsurfing, sailing; diving; developing many cultural tourism services, performing arts, sports; water music performances; hot air balloons; paragliding; water golf course business on the lake.
"This is a very favorable opportunity for Tay Ho district to develop a variety of services and entertainment to supplement traditional service products" - Mr. Tran Trung Hieu said.

Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Tay Ho District, Hanoi Bui Thi Lan Phuong said: In recent times, in order to exploit the potentials and advantages of the relics, heritages, and craft villages of the West Lake area to serve tourism development, Tay Ho District has issued and implemented the Project "Organizing a space for performing culinary arts and street art in Tay Ho District" on Trinh Cong Son walking street (Nhat Tan ward); Project to enjoy Quang An lotus tea; Project "Nhat Tan traditional peach blossom craft village combined with tourism" and "Tu Lien kumquat growing craft village"; Project "Service point, cultural tourism and introducing the traditional craft of "Do paper making" of the ancient Buoi region"...
In addition, the district also coordinates with the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the Hanoi Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion and local tourism businesses to identify destination brands, develop spiritual tourism combined with visits to traditional craft villages. The district has also recently inaugurated the OCOP product introduction center of the district and Hanoi city. This promises to be a stopover for tourists before going to the airport. The district is also planning to develop night tours and semi-real-life tours to serve tourists.
In particular, according to Ms. Bui Thi Lan Phuong, Tay Ho district is also preparing a dossier to request recognition of the national intangible cultural heritage for the West Lake lotus tea brewing profession. The district has a project to expand the lotus growing area to 25 hectares and grow lotus all year round so that visitors to Tay Ho from January to December can enjoy the beauty, check-in with lotus flowers, enjoy and shop for products made from lotus plants.
Need to connect closely with travel businesses
Besides the achieved results, according to experts, the development of tourist destinations in Tay Ho district also has some limitations.
According to Vice President of Hanoi Tourism Association Pham Duy Nghia, although Tay Ho district has developed many unique types of tourism, the destinations in Tay Ho district have not been invested deeply in quality. The relic sites are very unique but there is no connection with travel agencies to bring tourists there. For example, there are relic sites that are not open on weekdays or enthusiastically welcome visitors.

Therefore, to improve the quality of tourism products and services in Tay Ho district, Mr. Pham Duy Nghia said: "Tourist attractions, relics and travel businesses need to work more closely together. Besides, currently, West Lake has stopped operating floating boats and is oriented towards developing sports tourism. Therefore, the government needs to call for in-depth investment from businesses with economic potential and vision to invest in high-quality tourism products and services to create highlights to attract tourists to experience".
Sharing the same view, Chairman of the Vietnam Green Tourism Association Phung Quang Thang said: "Tay Ho District has advantages in tourism development and is different from other districts of the capital with its natural landscape and unique cultural values, along with the largest lake in Hanoi located next to the Red River. The road around West Lake can become a tourist route of the capital. Therefore, more attention should be paid to improving the clean and beautiful environment of the route.
In particular, Tay Ho district should have a long-term forecast to plan large parking lots in tourist areas and spots to serve large groups of visitors. In addition, with cultural tourism, human guides are still more attractive than technology, so it is necessary to train a team of tour guides and guides at the spots.

According to Director of the Asian Tourism Development Institute, Chairman of the Vietnam Community Tourism Association Pham Hai Quynh: "If Tay Ho District wants to develop tourism, it needs to start by perfecting its products and services and closely connecting with travel businesses. Tay Ho District authorities can immediately connect with households with traditional occupations, business households, areas, locations, and management boards of relics in the district with travel businesses to include them in the City tour. When travel businesses, especially the people, benefit, unique traditional values will be protected and create leverage for tourism to develop further"./.
