Việt NamViệt Nam25/11/2024

In order to change people's thinking and working methods in a positive direction as well as eliminate gender prejudices, customs and habits that are harmful to women and children, the Women's Union of Yen Lap district has established and maintained the activities of Community Communication Teams (CTCs). From the initial achievements, it has been affirmed that this is one of the effective solutions to effectively implement the activities of Project 8 - aiming at gender equality and solving urgent problems for women and children.

Promoting the effectiveness of the Community Communications Team

Once a month, the Community Information Group of Luong Dau area, Dong Thinh commune chooses a propaganda topic that people are interested in.

The Yen Lap District Women's Union currently has over 15,000 members, of which 80% are ethnic minorities. The lives of the majority of members are still difficult because many localities still have backward customs and practices. To help members raise awareness, women confidently rise up and gradually change the community's perception of women, the Yen Lap District Women's Union has focused on guiding grassroots associations to prioritize the implementation of gender equality communication activities, solving urgent problems for women and children in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. In particular, the model of the Community Information Team has been widely accepted by the people and initially brought about practical results.

Up to now, Yen Lap district has established and launched 57 TTCĐ Teams with 431 members. The important task of the Team is to identify gender stereotypes and prejudices in families and communities, harmful cultural practices and some urgent social issues for women and children in the locality to propagate, mobilize for change and resolution. The members of the Team actively monitor and grasp the living situation, thoughts and aspirations of the people in general, women and girls in particular; promptly report to the Team's Executive Board on issues discovered in the area.

By participating in the TTCĐ Team, members are trained in the operation and management of the Team; building a communication network on a digital platform (Zalo application, Facebook and other applications...) to share information and connect the activities of the Teams. The TTCĐ Team takes people, especially women and girls in the community in the area of the village where the Team is established or in the commune, as the communication target. In fact, the establishment and launch of the TTCĐ Teams have brought about positive effects, helping to raise awareness, support the care of material and spiritual life, protect and care for women and children, contributing to the implementation of gender equality goals and solving urgent problems for women and children in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

The TTCĐ group of Luong Dau area, Dong Thinh commune was established with 7 members, with the task of propagating and mobilizing people to change their thinking and ways of doing things in their daily lives and activities: Encouraging members and women to work in production, develop the economy, contribute to eliminating prejudices and gender stereotypes in the family and community, harmful customs as well as actively monitoring and grasping the living situation, thoughts and aspirations of people in general, women and girls in particular...

Promoting the effectiveness of the Community Communications Team

The District Women's Union organized training on communication to change gender stereotypes in housework for members participating in the Community Information Team.

Mr. Dinh Cong Lam - Party Cell Secretary, Head of the Family Mediation Team in Luong Dau area, Dong Thinh commune said: "Previously, when there was no Family Mediation Team, households with family conflicts due to having only one child, conflicts leading to domestic violence, the grassroots mediation team would come to mediate, if the mediation failed, it would be transferred to the police for resolution. Since the team was established, the communication work has been methodical, choosing priority issues, pressing issues of the people, policies, the Law on Marriage and Family, the Law on Prevention of Domestic Violence, so people's awareness has been raised, social evils have decreased".

The difficulty of the Luong Dau Area Communication Group is that it is newly established and has little experience. The area is large, the population is scattered, and the educational level of a part of the people is limited. In addition, young union members work far away or in enterprises, so not many people participate in communication sessions in the area. To improve the quality and effectiveness of activities, in each meeting, the Luong Dau Area Communication Group has selected issues that people are interested in, prepared communication programs according to the script and instructions of the commune officials. The content of the communication is concise, concise, and suitable for the needs and customs of the locality. Along with that, the Group often integrates into the meetings of associations, unions, and residential areas to communicate to people about gender and gender equality; communicate on the area's loudspeaker system; Propaganda through theatrical forms such as: Picking democratic flowers, plays, skits, cultural exchanges... with topics such as Law on Marriage and Family, Law on Gender Equality... attracting many participants.

Over time, the activities of the TTCĐ Team have spread strongly, initially changing the way of thinking and working in a positive and beneficial direction, eliminating gender prejudices, gender stereotypes, bad customs... Comrade Hoang Thi Quyen - President of the Women's Union of Yen Lap district said: "To maintain, expand and improve the quality of the TTCĐ Team model, in the coming time, the Women's Union of the district will continue to direct the Women's Unions of communes to establish TTCĐ Teams in villages and hamlets; train in team operation, communication skills, knowledge on gender equality, domestic violence prevention, drug prevention... to help members have knowledge and skills to directly communicate and propagate to the people. Currently, in the areas, especially the highlands of the district, the issue of gender stereotypes is hindering the implementation of gender equality. Therefore, the establishment of TTCĐ Teams with members who are local people, close to the community will be an important factor in contributing to changing the way of thinking and working in the community. community, eliminating gender prejudices and stereotypes in families and communities, harmful cultural practices and some urgent social issues for women and children. To maintain and improve the quality and effectiveness of the TTCĐ Groups, we regularly train communication skills as well as raise awareness and responsibility of members, and at the same time survey the situation of gender prejudice in the locality to have action plans that are close to the situation and actual needs...”.
