On January 6, Mr. Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Director of Hai Phong Customs Department confirmed that the cocaine/drug shipment with a total weight of 303 kg was discovered and seized by Hai Phong Customs Department in coordination with the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department (General Department of Customs) and the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department (C04 - Ministry of Public Security)... at Nam Dinh Vu port in 2023 and during the investigation, the authorities did not arrest any suspects, in addition to drugs.
303 kg of drugs were packed into bags by an international criminal group, hidden under the cover and labels of 10 kg bags of rice.
According to Hai Phong Customs, to successfully seize the above drug shipment, Vietnamese authorities coordinated with US authorities to monitor the shipment from the time it was loaded onto a ship at a seaport in the Republic of Argentina, then transported from this South American country through Uruguay to Singapore, before arriving at Nam Dinh Vu port (Hai Phong City) in early June 2023.
To deceive the authorities, the international criminal gang packed 303 kg of drugs into pineapple bags, each bag containing 10 kg, under the guise of rice products.
Authorities counted the amount of drugs after they were transported from abroad to Nam Dinh Vu port, Hai An district (Hai Phong city) in early June 2023.
Through appraisal, the batch of 303 kg of drugs is worth about 60 million USD (equivalent to 1,400 billion VND).
To serve the investigation, all information about the case was kept secret for many months but without results, because foreign criminals operated very sophisticatedly, operated remotely and used Vietnam as a transit point for drugs.
Also according to the Hai Phong Customs Department, in 2023, the department coordinated with functional forces to successfully crack down on 8 cases, arrest 15 suspects, and seize a total of more than 1 ton of various drugs.
