Recently, Vietnamese and Chinese plant researchers have cooperated and successfully discovered six new plant species belonging to the Aspidistra (asparagus) family in southern China and northern Vietnam.

According to a VNA reporter in China, the Vietnam-China border area is the distribution and differentiation center of many plant species of the Aspidistra family.

Since 2019, members of the research team of the Guangxi Institute of Botany under the Chinese Academy of Sciences have been exploring the plant diversity of Guangxi Province in collaboration with researchers from the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology to investigate the plant diversity in the China-Vietnam limestone ecosystem, collecting many new species of plants belonging to the Aspidistra family.

After many years of monitoring, six new species were identified and the research results were published in the international plant classification journal “Phytotaxa.”

These newly discovered plant species originate from Jingxi, Debao, Dongxing in Guangxi province; Anlong in Guizhou province of China and Ba Be National Park in northern Vietnam./.
