On the afternoon of March 27, an online workshop between the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union and the Foreign Affairs Committee of Saint Petersburg City (Russian Federation) took place with the theme "Promoting the role of women and girls in Science and Technology."
The workshop aims to exchange experiences in promoting women's participation in science between the two countries.
On the Vietnamese side, attending the workshop were Dr. Nguyen Thi Tuyen, member of the Party Central Committee, President of the Vietnam Women's Union, Dr. Do Thi Thu Thao, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Women's Union, and the Russian representative, acting Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Saint Petersburg city, Vyacheslav Kalganov.
There were also representatives from the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Vietnam and nearly 90 delegates representing female scientists, lecturers and students from the two countries.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Mr. Vyacheslav Kalganov said that in the fine diplomatic tradition between Vietnam and the Russian Federation, the Vietnam Women's Union plays a very important role in connecting the two countries.
In Russia today, female scientists achieve significant successes in various fields of research such as engineering, natural sciences and humanities, as well as in the field of technical and technological development. However, there is still a significant gender imbalance in the Russian scientific community.
To improve this situation, the Russian Government is considering a number of topical issues related to women in science, such as creating favorable conditions to ensure that career opportunities for female scientists are not interrupted by childbirth and child-rearing, supporting women in science and high technology in key industries, the role of women in the development of science and education in the region, promoting the achievements of female scientists and increasing the attractiveness of scientific careers.
Mr. Kalganov assessed that Vietnam always perseveres in the goal of sustainable development, identifying science and technology as a top national policy. Along with that are the continuous efforts to promote gender equality and develop the team of female scientists. The team of female scientists and intellectuals in Vietnam has gradually matured and affirmed their important role, contributing to promoting the development of the country's economy.
In that context, he emphasized the significance of the workshop in promoting the common process of women from both countries participating in science, creating opportunities to exchange experiences on this issue, while enhancing exchanges between women and people of the two countries, contributing to the implementation of the cooperation agreement between the two units.
For her part, Dr. Nguyen Thi Tuyen, member of the Party Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Women's Union, said that in the world, including Russia and Vietnam, there have been many famous and talented female scientists, whose research and contributions have changed human history and improved the quality of human life.
Currently, Vietnam is accelerating the process of reforming the state administrative apparatus to ensure streamlining, efficiency, effectiveness, and efficiency, ready to enter a new era, an era of national growth. Therefore, the development of science and technology is becoming increasingly necessary.
The Vietnamese Government has issued the National Digital Transformation Program to 2025, with a vision to 2030. Along with that, the Law on Gender Equality and the National Strategy on Gender Equality for the 2021-2030 period have created a favorable legal corridor for female intellectuals, experts, and female scientists to continue pursuing their passion, conducting scientific research, and contributing to the country's sustainable development.
President of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Tuyen emphasized that, as a socio-political organization representing the legitimate and legal rights of women, the Vietnam Women's Union has carried out practical activities to support women's forces participating in science and technology such as: promoting the establishment of the Vietnam Women's Intellectuals Association (2011); issuing a Resolution on supporting women's international integration until 2030, including science and technology (2021); implementing programs, projects, awards and competitions to encourage and support women in scientific research, innovation, start-ups, and effective participation in the digital economy and digital society, notably the Kovalevskaia Award.
At the workshop, delegates contributed many papers on the achievements of women in the two countries in science, in socio-economic development, and in building people-to-people diplomacy, contributing to promoting the country's position in the international arena.
President of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Tuyen hopes that through the workshop, the two organizations will exchange information and experience, suggest new initiatives and effective solutions to promote women from both countries to participate in the field of science and technology, and at the same time open up cooperation opportunities between agencies, organizations and women from both countries in this field.
The two sides also agreed to coordinate in organizing exchange programs, seminars and online forums to further promote women's participation in science, and set out specific tasks to develop the scientific community of the two countries./.
