Thailand's Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong said on March 27 that the government is considering shortening the visa-free stay period before traveling to Thailand for Chinese tourists, from a maximum of 90 days to 30 days.

Mr Sorawong said most Chinese tourists do not stay in Thailand for more than 15 days, except for those who come to learn Muay Thai or how to cook Thai food. Therefore, he said a 30-day stay is appropriate.

In March 2024, Thailand and China agreed on a mutual visa-waiver agreement, allowing citizens of both countries to enter and stay in the other country for up to 30 days without a visa, with a cumulative stay of no more than 90 days in any 180-day period.

Minister Sorawong said the “Let’s Travel Together” program will be restored in May or June to promote tourism during the low tourist season and on weekdays.

Under the “We Travel Together” program, government officials will be able to participate without losing their leave entitlements by working online while on business trips./.
