At around 1:40 p.m., a truck was traveling on the Cam Lo - La Son highway from North to South. When it reached Huong Van ward, Huong Tra town, the truck crashed into a tractor-trailer that was stopped on the right side of the road.
After the crash, which created a loud noise, the truck was deformed and its cargo spilled onto the road. The driver was seriously injured and was taken to the Central Hospital 2 in Phong Dien district for emergency treatment.
The section of highway where the accident occurred has four lanes, a median strip, and is flat. Authorities determined that the truck driver was not paying attention and crashed into the tractor-trailer on the side of the road.
To avoid traffic jams, traffic police directed vehicles from Quang Tri to Thua Thien Hue via National Highway 1. Vehicles traveling from South to North circulated normally on the highway.
Connecting Quang Tri with Thua Thien Hue, the 98.3 km Cam Lo - La Son expressway is in the investment phase. Phase one, about 85 km, is designed with two lanes, with solid yellow lines prohibiting overtaking, speed 60-80 km/h. Every 10 km, there is a 1-1.5 km overtaking section with four lanes, an emergency lane, speed 80 km/h.
Since the Lunar New Year, the Cam Lo - La Son Expressway has seen many serious accidents involving heavy trucks and passenger buses, resulting in many deaths. To limit accidents, from April 4, the Vietnam Road Administration has banned trucks over 30 tons, passenger buses over 30 seats, and sleeper buses from entering this expressway.
