Halfway up Mimosa Pass in Da Lat City (Lam Dong), the organic garden is planted by Ms. Nguyen Thi Tho Van (47 years old) with ginger, eucalyptus, rosemary, perilla... All the plants in the garden are used to extract essential oils.

3 years ago, Ms. Van was the chief accountant for a company in Hai Phong City. This was also the time when the Covid-19 pandemic had the strongest impact on people's lives.

At that time, the demand for using essential oils to clean houses and prevent epidemics was very high. However, most users were vague about how to use them and did not know how to distinguish between real and fake essential oils.

From this reality, Ms. Van decided to learn about making essential oils, especially making essential oils from herbs for health care.

In 2022, Ms. Van quit her job to start producing essential oils. The decision surprised Ms. Van's relatives because at that time she had a stable job and life.

Coming to Da Lat city, Ms. Van determined that this was a large raw material area, suitable for implementing her idea.

According to Ms. Van, Da Lat's cool climate all year round is very suitable for growing plants. Also thanks to the climate, some types of plants will produce more essential oils than those grown in other regions.

"Unlike the usual agricultural production and processing process, essential oil production is not done centrally. Essential oils of herbs are extracted at each household and each raw material area. Therefore, I have joined hands with each household to produce their own essential oils," Ms. Van shared about her work.

Essential oils conquer young parliamentarians worldwide

Returning from the 9th Global Young Parliamentarians Conference held in Hanoi in mid-September, Ms. Tho Van was proud that her essential oil products were well received by international friends.

"The Global Young Parliamentarians Conference is an opportunity for me to introduce my products. After the conference, I have more motivation to continue with my passion for making herbal essential oils," said Ms. Van.

In the room displaying essential oils extracted from herbs, Ms. Van said that to produce a milliliter of product is very elaborate and costly.

Currently, the 47-year-old woman has researched and produced 12 types of essential oils such as lemongrass, rosemary, basil, ginger, cinnamon, tangerine peel, etc.

In particular, the essential oils she produces have been certified as 3-star OCOP products (local strengths products) by Lam Dong province.

"In addition to essential oils from herbs, I also extract avocado essential oil. Recently, I bought 80 tons of avocado from local people to produce essential oils. The price of avocado I buy is always higher than the market price. The production of avocado essential oil has initially solved a large volume of agricultural products, bringing high income to farmers," said Ms. Van.

After more than a year of starting a business, with many opportunities to introduce products to domestic and international friends, Ms. Van shared that essential oil products are available in many provinces and cities, with a selling price of about 150,000 VND/10ml.

In particular, in addition to purchasing raw materials from farmers, the production facility also creates jobs for more than 10 local workers, with an income of 8-12 million VND/person/month.
