Meritorious Artist Le Tu as Vo Duy Ninh
On the afternoon of December 26, Group 2 of Tran Huu Trang Theater performed a review of the Vietnamese historical opera "Gia Dinh Citadel's Epic" (author Pham Van Dang, directed by Meritorious Artist Hoa Ha).
The opera tells the story of the heroic patriot Vo Duy Ninh, who was promoted by the king to the position of Governor of Dinh - Bien, in charge of the two provinces of Gia Dinh and Bien Hoa.
That was the period when he had just arrived in Gia Dinh to take office for two days when the French army opened fire and attacked Can Gio - Gia Dinh. The fight against the French from Can Gio to Gia Dinh citadel lasted for nearly a month with the strength of weapons, so the French army attacked the citadel.

Realizing the potential of the French army, on the one hand Vo Duy Ninh sought to call for reinforcements from the provinces to save Gia Dinh citadel, on the other hand he tried to improve the ranks and morale of the soldiers.
When the French army rushed into the citadel gate, bombarded the forts along the river and advanced straight into Gia Dinh citadel, Vo Duy Ninh urged the army to resist fiercely, but could not hold the citadel against the overwhelming enemy force.
During the battle, he was also seriously wounded by a bullet and fell unconscious. He was carried by soldiers to Phuoc Ly village in Phuoc Loc district. After waking up, knowing that the French army had captured Gia Dinh citadel, he drew his sword and committed suicide.
The Vietnamese historical play "Gia Dinh Citadel's Epic" is an effort by the artists of Group 2 of Tran Huu Trang Theater.
The court appointed Nguyen Tri Phuong and Pham The Hien to Gia Dinh citadel to provide support. Vo Duy Ninh's son, Vo Duy Lap, followed his father's lead and joined the army, determined to repel the invaders.
Meritorious Artist Le Tu transformed into two old men, Vo Duy Ninh and Nguyen Tri Phuong. He invested in both roles creatively to have different acting styles, expressing the heroic spirit of the characters.
Meritorious Artist Le Tu has researched every gesture, gait, dialogue and singing style, especially the role of Vo Duy Ninh, who had to express the character's psychological levels, sometimes worrying about the fate of the country, sometimes feeling pain at the sight of the French invaders destroying Gia Dinh citadel.
Therefore, Meritorious Artist Le Tu has excellently performed the role, bringing many emotions, making viewers love Vietnamese history and respect the national heroes even more.
Music, scenery, and stage costumes have created an attractive Vietnamese historical work that was passionately staged on the stage of Tran Huu Trang Theater.
