"Union shelter" for workers, civil servants and poor laborers

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Responding to the "Union Shelter" Program launched by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL), in recent times, trade unions at all levels in the province have actively implemented activities to support the repair and construction of new houses for union members, workers, civil servants, and laborers in difficult circumstances, helping them stabilize their lives, work and produce with peace of mind, and successfully complete assigned tasks.

Leaders of the Trade Union of Nghi Son Economic Zone and Industrial Zones of Thanh Hoa province presented funds to support the construction of a "Trade Union Shelter" for union members of Annora Vietnam Shoes Company Limited.

For many years, the family of Mr. Truong Phu Tuyet, a union member of Hoang Yen commune (Hoang Hoa) has lived in a dilapidated, rickety house. Every time it rains or is windy, the house seems like it could collapse at any moment. Mr. Tuyet himself has a serious illness and has to be regularly examined and treated at Military Hospital 103. His wife is in poor health and is unable to work; his two children are still in school. As the main breadwinner in the family, his monthly income is only enough for living expenses, and he cannot even dream of a new house. And then the joy came when the Provincial Federation of Labor decided to support him with 50 million VND from the Thanh Hoa Union's Support Fund for Union Members and Employees. With the help of relatives and colleagues, his family was able to build a new, spacious and solid house.

Moved by the sentiments of the trade union, Mr. Tuyet expressed: “I am very grateful to the trade union for creating all material and spiritual conditions to help union members in difficult circumstances like me have the opportunity to build a new house to stabilize their lives. With a new house, from now on my wife and I will no longer worry every time we hear news of storms; our children also have a stable place to study and live.”

Visiting and sharing the joy with the family of Ms. Le Thi Hue, a union member of Aleron Vietnam Shoe Company Limited in their new house, we could see how practical the "Union Shelter" program is. Her husband passed away early, and for many years, the mother and her three children had to live in a dilapidated house. She herself had a serious traffic accident and had to be treated for a long time, so her health declined. She wanted to rebuild a new house, but difficult circumstances made it impossible, because the family's main income depended on her meager salary. Knowing that hardship, the unions at all levels joined hands to support her so that she could build a new house. Ms. Hue said: “With the support of 50 million VND from the trade union, my children and I have the conditions to build a new house. I am very happy because my family has a safe place to shelter from the rain and sun, and I can work with peace of mind and take care of my children. I hope this program will continue to be expanded so that many union members and employees in difficult circumstances can be supported to build houses and stabilize their lives.”

In recent years, supporting funding for the construction and repair of "Union Shelters" has been a regular activity of trade unions at all levels in the province, demonstrating the role and responsibility of trade unions in caring for the lives of union members and employees. To implement the program, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Federation of Labor has directed trade unions at all levels to regularly conduct surveys to grasp the situation and housing needs as well as the lives, jobs and incomes of union members and employees. On that basis, organize appraisals and meetings to consider supporting employees in difficult circumstances to build "Union Shelters" for the right subjects. Along with that, the Provincial Federation of Labor has instructed trade unions at all levels to propagate and mobilize cadres, employees and union members to support the establishment of the Thanh Hoa Trade Union Support Fund for union members and employees to share some of the burden of employees in difficult circumstances, solving the urgent housing problem so that they can work, work and produce with peace of mind. From 2024 to April 2025, from the Thanh Hoa Trade Union's Support Fund for Union Members and Employees, the Provincial Federation of Labor supported the repair and construction of 250 "Union Shelters" for poor employees with a total amount of more than 9.3 billion VND.

The “Union Shelters” in the province have been and are being completed, not only bringing joy and happiness to each family of the union members who benefit from them, but also the union officials are very happy and excited because each newly built house means one more union member family has less difficulty. This is one of the practical and effective programs, affirming that the union organization is a solid support for union members and employees.

Comrade Vo Manh Son, Provincial Party Committee member, Chairman of the Provincial Federation of Labor, said: With the motto "Where workers are in difficulty, there is a trade union", in recent times, trade unions at all levels in the province have performed well the task of caring for the lives, protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of union members and employees, including the task of supporting the repair and construction of new "Union shelters" for union members with difficult housing circumstances. This is one of the deeply humane activities of the trade union organization, contributing to the implementation of social security policies, creating trust and enhancing the position of the trade union organization in society, in the hearts of workers, especially workers with particularly difficult circumstances.
