Affected by a wrist injury, Djokovic suffered his first defeat in Australia in six years as De Minaur fired the hosts to a 2-0 win over Serbia in the United Cup quarter-finals.

"I knew that I probably wouldn't be 100% physically, emotionally, mentally in the match at the beginning of the week. I didn't expect that either," Djokovic said in a press conference after the match.

Djokovic had to deal with a wrist injury before the quarter-final.

"I wasn't at my level, it was just one of those days where I didn't feel my best on the pitch and the opponent played very well."

However, the 10-time Australian Open champion is optimistic about recovering from the wrist problem ahead of the first Grand Slam of the season.

"Honestly, I think I'll be fine," Djokovic added. "The wrist injury has affected me quite a bit, especially on my forehand and serve.

But I still have a lot of time, I think I have enough time to get back in shape for the Australian Open."

"It's nothing new to me, nothing unusual. I've been in this situation many times and know what I need to do with the team to be ready. I hope there won't be any more injuries."

"Recovery is what we're going to work on, to get my body fit and in the best possible condition to be able to compete at a high level throughout the Australian Open."

The 2024 Australian Open will take place from January 14-28.
