Macron traveled to Washington to meet with Trump to discuss the Ukraine conflict, after the White House boss announced his readiness to restore diplomatic relations with Russia and negotiate an end to the war without Ukraine's participation. In a joint press conference after the talks, the French president affirmed that "peace does not mean Ukraine's surrender", and hoped that Trump would create a turning point in the conflict and that a ceasefire could be achieved in the "coming weeks". US President Donald Trump met with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymir Zelensky at the White House in Washington on February 28. During the meeting, the two leaders had a heated argument, with Mr. Zelensky calling on Mr. Trump to be cautious with Russia, while the US leader accused his counterpart of disrespect, exposing the simmering disagreements between the two sides. Later that day, President Trump declared on the social network Truth Social that his Ukrainian counterpart Zelensky was "not ready for peace." President Zelensky left the White House, the expected mineral agreement between the two sides was not signed, and the relationship with Mr. Trump also deteriorated.
