At the beginning of the twelfth lunar month every year, people in some areas of Ham Thuan Bac district urgently start taking care of the primrose flowers for Tet.

With 6 years of experience in growing sedum, this year, Mr. Pham Van Nam - in An Phu village, Ham Chinh commune, planted more than 2,500 trees of this type of plant. According to Mr. Nam, although sedum has low investment costs, it is not easy to grow, the care process must follow the correct process, not to let it flood, avoid excess nitrogen fertilizer for the flowers to bloom evenly. On average, from planting to harvesting, organic fertilizer is applied 4 times combined with inorganic fertilizer and pesticides are only sprayed when pests appear. The biggest threat to sedum is soft rot. However, this year this disease rarely occurs, but on the contrary, many sedum flowers die prematurely, the growth stage is slow, the plants are shorter than in previous years, so the quality and appearance are somewhat affected. Taking care of the sedum flower is difficult, but making it bloom on time for Tet is even more difficult. According to the process, planting the sedum flower at the end of July and the beginning of August of the lunar calendar will have a high probability of blooming on time for Tet. However, depending on the weather conditions each year, combined with care techniques, the sedum flower will bloom sooner or later. Therefore, in order for the sedum flower to bloom on time for Tet, in addition to technical factors, the farmer also needs to be skillful and meticulous. Thanks to the experience accumulated over many years, this year's sedum crop of Mr. Pham Van Nam's family is almost certain to bloom on time for Tet.

According to estimates, Ham Thuan Bac district currently has nearly 15 hectares of agricultural land where farmers grow primrose flowers to serve Tet each year. Production is mainly small-scale in the form of households. On average, each household grows from 100 - 1,000m2 , equivalent to about 500 - 5,000 plants. primrose is a plant with high economic value, thanks to this plant, in recent years many households in the district have had a decent Tet. According to Mr. Pham Van Nam, during the Lunar New Year last year, he sold about 2,200 primrose plants at an average price of 50,000 VND/plant, earning a profit of about 90 million VND. This year, due to the premature death of many trees, he estimates that there are about 1,800 trees that are eligible to be sold during the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin. If the price remains stable compared to the Lunar New Year of Quy Mao 2023, then after deducting expenses, he will surely have 70 million VND in hand... The Lunar New Year of Giap Thin is approaching. It is expected that around December 20, 2023, the growers of the sedum flower in Ham Thuan Bac district will harvest and supply the market. This year, the care of the sedum flower is not very favorable, the number of plants dying prematurely is high, but in return, most of the area is likely to bloom right on the occasion of Tet, so the sedum growers in the district are very excited and expect that this flower will continue to help them increase their income, have more conditions to cover expenses, and welcome a decent and full Tet.
