Gia Lai farmers are excited when the price of dry pepper reaches 160,000 VND/kg

Amidst the scorching sun, the pepper gardens laden with fruit are still bustling with laughter. With sunburned and sweaty faces, the members of Mr. Nguyen Tan Luc's family (village 4, Ia Hlop commune, Chu Se district, Gia Lai) are still smiling. Because this year, the pepper price is high at 160,000 VND/kg, while the yield of each pepper tree is up to more than 3 kg of dry pepper, the family's 1ha pepper garden is expected to bring in an income of over 400 million VND.

Mr. Luc excitedly shared: "This 2025 pepper crop, I am very excited because it is much better than previous years. On average, a pepper tree yields 3.5 kg of dried pepper. I signed a contract with O Lam Company 5 years ago, so I was able to buy at a price 2,000 to 3,000 VND/kg higher than the market price. So I am very excited."

The joy also spread throughout the pepper growing areas in Gia Lai. More than 100 members of the Nam Yang Agricultural and Service Cooperative (Dak Doa district) are expecting this crop to bring in tens of billions of VND thanks to 50 hectares of high-yielding pepper.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Cong - Chairman of the Cooperative said that since 2018, the unit has shifted to intercropping pepper and coffee to optimize costs and increase sustainability in the face of market fluctuations. At the same time, the Cooperative encourages farmers to apply organic farming to ensure export standards.

According to Mr. Cong: “The cooperative also recommends that people do not use banned substances, especially those previously banned in European, American and Japanese markets. Recently, the cooperative also warned that Sudan IV is an industrial dye, and at the same time instructed people to use colorless tarps and drying bags. These are sustainable solutions. Multi-cropping, multi-cropping, and crop rotation do not increase costs but help increase revenue significantly. Currently, coffee prices are high, so people's lives are very good."

Thanks to the change in reasonable farming methods, the pepper growing area has not expanded as before, but Gia Lai pepper growers still achieve high revenue thanks to good prices and stable productivity.
