The family of Mr. Nguyen Huu Tinh (residing in Dai Dong hamlet, Thuong Tan Loc commune) grows 10 sao of sweet corn. Currently, Mr. Tinh's family's sweet corn has been harvested. The enterprise is also purchasing sweet corn at the committed price of 4,300 VND/kg.
"In the past, our villagers often grew corn to feed livestock, but the income was not worth much.
Now, switching to commercial sweet corn cultivation brings much higher income. Enterprises also purchase the products, so farmers feel secure in cultivating them."
Expanding the linkage model, helping farmers increase income from sweet corn
With the current yield, farmers earn nearly 70 million VND/ha. This is the second year that farmers in Thuong Tan Loc commune have implemented the model of growing sweet corn on alluvial land.
Sweet corn has a stable output, so people are very excited. From a few households at first, many people have now registered to grow sweet corn in association with businesses.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Thanh's family (residing in Dai Dong hamlet, Thuong Tan Loc commune) also has 4 sao of sweet corn farming.
According to the contract, the company purchases right at the field, importing the whole corn without having to shell or separate the kernels, and without having to dry it.
In addition to harvesting corn, corn stalks are used as a source of feed for livestock. After more than 3 months of planting and care, the harvest has now been completed, and after deducting expenses, the profit is still more than 40%.
The sweet corn growing model in Thuong Tan Loc commune is very effective. Sweet corn grows and develops quickly, is healthy, and is suitable for the local soil. Sweet corn stalks are low, so they are less likely to break during cultivation.
Ms. Phan Thi Trang - President of the Farmers' Association of Thuong Tan Loc Commune, Nam Dan District (Nghe An Province) shared: "The sweet corn model has proven its success in terms of productivity and income. The sweet corn variety has a shorter growth period than traditional corn from 10 to 15 days, so it is very convenient for cultivation and crop rotation.
Sweet corn yield is twice as high as that of traditional corn varieties. In the coming time, the locality will continue to cooperate with businesses to replicate the model. Thereby, helping farmers in the area increase their income."
