The Moon River Carriers: A Collection of Poems by 6 Veteran Female Authors in Vietnamese Literature

The 6 authors are all poets and writers with decades of writing experience, each with their own style, contributing their own artistic "voices", making their works a mark on the Vietnamese literary forum.

Poetry Collection: The People Carrying the Moon River

“The Moon River Carriers” is a collection of poems that compiles many popular works from 1990 to present by 6 famous female poets and writers in the Vietnamese literary world, just released on December 17 at the headquarters of the Vietnam Writers Association (Hanoi).

These are the authors Phan Thi Thanh Nhan, Nguyen Thi Hong Ngat, Doan Thi Lam Luyen, Pham Thi Thu Yen, Kim Nhu and Tran Thi Truong.

Poet Phan Thi Thanh Nhan was born in 1943, and was the Permanent Vice President of the Hanoi Writers Association; Permanent Vice President of the Hanoi Union of Literature and Arts. Winner of the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2007, the female author is most famous for her poems "Hương Thâm", "Con đường", "Đầm cá ngày mua" ... all about the feelings and emotions of a girl with her first love through everyday scenes.

The second author Nguyen Thi Hong Ngát is a poet, screenwriter, former director of the Vietnam Feature Film Studio, and Deputy Director of the Cinema Department. In the eyes of her friends, she always expresses her sincerity in her poems: What she thinks, she writes, sincerely, easily winning the sympathy of readers. She included many works in the collective poetry collection, notably the poem "Night Sea" which was set to music by artists Le Vinh and performed by Ngoc Tan.

The next author is Doan Thi Lam Luyen, the author of poems such as “Dái yêu,” “Chông chi chồng em” or “Gội Thúy Kiều” ... Her collection of poems “Chông chi chồng em” (1991) won a prize in the poetry contest of the Literature and Arts Newspaper. The poet’s language is sharp and delicate, and was commented by author Trần Nguyễn of the People’s Police Newspaper as “thorough in words and fierce in spirit.”

Another author is Associate Professor-PhD Pham Thu Yen, an expert on Vietnamese folk literature. Some of her poems selected for inclusion in the book are “With You,” “Singing with Folk Songs,” “Knowing Yourself” ... Writer Tran Thi Truong commented that her poems are rich in spiritual beauty, not much philosophy but rich in life details, authentic and full of emotions.

As for journalist and teacher Kim Nhu, she left her mark through poetry and short stories such as “The Lullaby Comes Back,” “Love and Life” (poetry), “Where to Send Memories” and “The Family Where We Return” (short stories, essays). Critics have commented that her exemplary teaching skills and her experiences in journalism have provided her with valuable materials for her writing. Her poetry and prose stand out for their clarity, gentleness and poignancy.

The only author who wrote prose was writer Tran Thi Truong, who contributed a series of articles about five female poets and many paintings. She also came up with the idea of ​​the title “The People Carrying the Moon River,” a metaphor for women who share a passion for beauty in life and poetry.

The collection of poems also reflects the love of work of the artists despite their age. Reading the collection, Chairman of the Writers' Association Nguyen Quang Thieu commented that the image of the moonlit river mentioned "rises up beautifully, majestically and sparklingly. Each person brings a beauty, a mark of Vietnamese literature"./.
