The Qingming Festival in 2025 begins on Friday, April 4th and ends on April 19th. This is an occasion for family and relatives to gather, prepare offerings and food to commemorate deceased loved ones. Popular food choices for this occasion include sweet soups, cakes, roasted pork, and various fruits.

Observations at markets in Bac Lieu City, such as the markets in Ward 1, Ward 2, and Ward 3's agricultural and food market, show that over the past few days, despite the high price of pork, especially pork belly at 160,000 - 170,000 VND/kg, it is still selling well, with supply not meeting demand. "For almost a month now, pork belly and pork leg have been selling very well; some days they're all sold out before 7 am. Anyone who wants to buy has to order in advance, otherwise, if they're late, there won't be any left," said Mr. D., a pork vendor.
Besides fresh meat, roasted pork is also very popular, with prices ranging from 350,000 to 370,000 VND/kg depending on the type. In addition to pork, roasted chicken and duck are also best-selling food items during this time. Roasting establishments have to work at full capacity to keep up with customer demand.
Rice cakes, sticky rice, peach-shaped cakes, Chinese radish cakes, glutinous rice balls in sweet soup… are popular items during the Thanh Minh festival. Besides that, various types of rice noodles, vermicelli, green vegetables, fresh flowers, and tombstone decorations are also in high demand due to increased consumption. Mr. Nguyen Toan (Ward 1, Bac Lieu City) shared: “In the past few days, I’ve been posting ads on my personal Facebook page and online marketplaces selling steamed chicken with fish sauce, roast duck, braised pork knuckle hotpot with medicinal herbs, and various cakes and sweet soups. I sell 20-30 orders a day, and it increases to 40-50 orders on weekends.”
Qingming Festival is a time when vendors can earn extra income to compensate for the slow sales since the Lunar New Year. However, the current weather is intensely hot, making it easy for bacteria and mold to contaminate food, causing spoilage and food poisoning. Therefore, consumers need to choose and store food properly to avoid affecting their own health and that of their family members.
