Israeli researchers have developed an AI tool called scNET that analyzes how cells respond to changes in their biological environment, including their response to drug therapies, Tel Aviv University said on April 1.
Unlike current gene sequencing technologies, which have difficulty identifying important changes in gene activity in single cells, such as cells in tumors, due to noisy data, scNET is able to handle noise to detect hidden biological patterns by combining single cell genomic data with gene interaction networks.
In experiments focusing on immune T cells, which play a key role in fighting cancer, scNET discovered how anti-cancer therapies boosted the cells' ability to kill tumors, an effect that was difficult to detect due to data noise.
This AI tool could accelerate drug development and improve understanding of disease, according to the journal Nature Methods.
Additionally, the researchers highlighted how AI tools like scNET can help decode complex cellular behavior and design targeted therapies./.
