We're just over two months away from the WWDC25 event where Apple will announce iOS 19. However, a new rumor suggests that iOS 19 will drop support for three iPhone models: the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max. All three devices were released in September 2018.

According to 9to5Mac , this rumor comes from an anonymous account that regularly shares accurate information about Apple updates on the X. Previously, this account has repeatedly leaked accurate details about iOS 18 compatibility in 2024.

Previously, 9to5Mac also had a rumor that all iPhone models supported by iOS 18 will be updated to iOS 19, including iPhone models from 11 and up. Both sources have predicted Apple's update details quite accurately in previous years.

Even though the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR won’t support iOS 19, they’ll continue to receive software updates from Apple. For example, on April 1, Apple released iOS 16.7.11 with security patches for the iPhone 8 and iPhone X.

As for iPadOS 19, rumors suggest that it will require at least an A12 Bionic chip to run, so the update will drop support for the 7th-generation iPad, which was released in September 2019 and uses the A10 Fusion chip.

However, not all iOS 19 supported devices will get all the features that this update brings. Apple will keep the best features for the high-end lines.

iOS 19 is said to be the biggest software update for the iPhone since iOS 7, released more than a decade ago in 2013. Apple is said to be revamping the interface to ensure design consistency between iOS, macOS, and iPadOS.

This includes redesigning icons, system buttons, controls, and application interface elements. The new OS will also simplify the way users navigate and control their devices.

Additionally, iOS 19 will likely apply a frosted glass effect across the entire interface, inspired by Vision Pro's software.

As for artificial intelligence, Apple is not expected to focus too much on this area at the upcoming WWDC. The company has struggled to implement the AI features it promised to launch this year.

An early version of a more natural conversational Siri will likely appear in the later stages of iOS 19, but its actual interface isn't expected to debut until iOS 20 in 2027.
