(GLO)- Despite physical disabilities, with extraordinary determination, many students still overcome difficulties, study hard and practice, and are loved by teachers and friends.
"Determined not to be handicapped in will and determination"
At the contest “15-year-old Dream” recently organized by the District Youth Union and the Ia Grai District Youth Union Council, everyone was impressed with Nguyen Thi Thuy Nga (class 9A, Nguyen Du Primary and Secondary School, Ia To Commune). Nga has an intellectual disability.
During the speaking contest, Nga emotionally expressed her dream of becoming a teacher: “We may be physically disabled, but we are determined not to be disabled in our will and determination. I dream of becoming a teacher to inspire and impart knowledge to students in situations like mine.”

Nga shared that winning the consolation prize and the most impressive contestant award of the contest is an endless joy for her. She was born into a family with difficult circumstances. Since childhood, she has only lived with her mother, and her health is not good. Although she works all day, the life of the mother and daughter is very difficult. But no matter how difficult it is, her mother still tries her best to let her go to school. Loving her mother, Nga always tries hard, studies hard and actively participates in school and class activities.
Doan Thi Minh Toan, Nga's classmate, shared: "In class, everyone loves and is willing to help Nga. I really admire her will to go to school. Despite her disability, Nga is always sociable and actively participates in all school and class movements."
Due to her illness, Nga has had many difficulties in studying, and often learns much slower than her friends. In return, Nga always tries to catch up with the curriculum and knowledge. In class, she focuses on listening to the teacher's lectures, and asks her friends and teachers for help when she doesn't understand something. The teachers also take the time to give her additional instructions. When she gets home, Nga always reviews her lessons and does her homework completely.
“I know I have a disability so I have to try twice, three times harder to keep up with my friends. Thanks to the help of teachers and friends, I can be who I am today. As I am about to enter high school, I will try even harder to get the best academic results,” Nga said.
Mr. Pham Van Quyet, homeroom teacher of class 9A, said: “Nguyen Thi Thuy Nga is a determined student. Although she absorbs knowledge slower than other students, Nga is very studious, polite to teachers and sociable with friends. As a homeroom teacher, I always remind the students in the class to regularly care for and help Nga.”
Don't want to be a burden
Ha My Kieu (class 8B, Nguyen Du Secondary School, Xuan An Commune, An Khe Town) is also loved and admired by teachers and friends for her determination to excel in her studies. Kieu is the third child in a family of 4 siblings. Not as fortunate as her peers, when she was born, Kieu had a cleft palate and her legs were atrophied, making it difficult for her to move.
Mr. Ha Van Mau, Kieu's father, said: "The family borrowed money to take her to many places for treatment, but there were no results. She only had surgery for her cleft palate, but her legs could not be treated. When she wanted to move, Kieu needed help from others. Despite her disability, Kieu was very eager to learn. My family did not think that our child would be able to continue studying until now."

Despite her small body compared to her age of 14 and weighing only 30 kg, Kieu's learning spirit and training awareness are always highly appreciated by teachers. Rain or shine, she always goes to school on time. When she is sick and has to miss a few days of school, Kieu always proactively asks teachers for help so that she does not have gaps in her knowledge.
When asked about her future dreams, Kieu hesitantly shared: “My family, teachers and friends are always by my side, wholeheartedly helping me. I am trying to study hard so that I can finish high school and then apply for vocational training; then find a suitable job to support myself. I do not want to be a burden to my parents.”
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuong Vy, Head of the Youth Union at Nguyen Du Secondary School, said: “Although Kieu only achieved average scores in all subjects, her passion for learning and her will to succeed have made many people admire her. She deserves to be a shining example of perseverance in overcoming difficulties for her classmates to learn from and follow. Over the past time, the school has always created favorable conditions and provided many forms of encouragement, helping her to be more confident and steadfast on her path to the future.”
The path to school for disabled students is not smooth. Nga’s dream of becoming a teacher and Kieu’s desire to have a career to support herself in the future will face many challenges. However, with determination, determination, and encouragement from family, teachers and friends, we believe that they will be more steadfast in their journey.
