The Dien Bien Phu victory was an event of great historical significance, not only opening the way to the Geneva Agreement negotiations to liberate North Vietnam, but also defeating the French colonialists' war strategy in Indochina. This is the assertion of Mr. Evgeni Glazunov - Counselor of the Soviet Embassy in Vietnam from 1962 to 1965.
Mr. Evgeni Glazunov said: “The Dien Bien Phu victory in 1954 took place when we were students. At that time, we did not have much information about the war situation, but I still remember very clearly that we jumped up and cheered when we heard the news that the Vietnamese people had won the Dien Bien Phu Campaign. On May 7, 1954, our whole class ran out into the yard and shouted “Victory, victory” even though many people did not know where Vietnam was on the globe. Of course, the Soviet press at that time talked and wrote a lot about the war situation in Vietnam and through the stories of adults, we also knew a little. Later, when I went to work, I was told by older colleagues who directly helped Vietnam in the resistance war against French colonialism that the Dien Bien Phu battle in Vietnam could be compared to the Stalingrad battle in the Soviet Union.”
According to Mr. Evgeni Glazunov, after 60 years of studying the value and summarizing the practice, military historians affirmed that the Dien Bien Phu Victory was an event of great historical significance, not only opening the way to negotiate the Geneva Agreement to liberate Northern Vietnam, but also defeating the war strategy of French colonialism in Indochina. Meanwhile, Major General Anatoli Pozdeev, former Soviet military expert, Vice President of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association, said: "The Dien Bien Phu Victory was not only a victory of the Vietnamese Army and people against French colonialism but also against American imperialism because before coming to Vietnam to take up the mission, General Nava went to the US to agree on a plan to re-colonize Vietnam, violating the peace commitment signed with the Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in early 1946...".
