Vietnam's number one amateur Nguyen Anh Minh will join his teammates in the region to compete for the Bonallack Trophy 2023 with the European team at La Manga Club, Spain from August 3-5.
16-year-old Minh participated in the tournament at the invitation of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC). This marked the first time Vietnamese golf had a representative participating in the tournament for high-achieving amateur youth, co-hosted by APGC and the European Golf Association since 1998, every two years.

The Bonallack Trophy is a team competition similar to the famous Ryder Cup between the US and Europe. The tournament is named after Sir Michael Bonallack - a famous amateur player who was knighted and served as Secretary General of the Royal & Ancient. This is an organization equal to the United States Golf Association (USGA) in managing, making rules and developing world golf.
The Bonallack Cup schedule includes 20 doubles matches over the first two days, split evenly between four-ball and foursomes, and 12 doubles matches on the final day. The tournament has produced players who have gone on to win majors, including Geoff Ogilvy, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Justin Rose, Shane Lowry, Cameron Smith, Hideki Matsuyama.
According to the Organizing Committee, each team consists of 12 members, selected through the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), achievements in designated tournaments, in which each country has a maximum of two representatives. Anh Minh is currently the highest-ranked Vietnamese golfer in the history of WAGR since the ranking was established in 2007, with a position in the top 225 this week. Anh Minh once reached WAGR rank 115, on August 17, 2022.
At the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia last month, Anh Minh won an individual bronze medal and then contributed to bringing home a team silver medal in a historic achievement for Vietnamese golf at the regional sports festival. On the VGA Tour season 2022, Anh Minh won the cup twice, including becoming the youngest amateur champion in the history of professional golf in the country, when he won the Lexus Challenge with a score of +3.
