Unemployment benefit recipients down 44%

(Dan Tri) - In January, the number of workers registering for unemployment benefits in Ho Chi Minh City was 5,463, a decrease of 4,351 applications (equivalent to a decrease of 44%) compared to the same period in 2024.

That is the data that the Ho Chi Minh City Employment Service Center collected from January 1 to January 31.

Compared to January 2024, January 2025 has a week off for Lunar New Year, so the number of workers registering for unemployment benefits is not surprising. However, the decrease of 44% is very large, showing that the labor and employment situation in the city in early 2025 has changed positively.

According to Ms. Nguyen Van Hanh Thuc, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Employment Service Center, the demand for labor recruitment of units before Tet is very large to meet the increased production and business needs.

Therefore, right before Tet, the center organized a job fair to connect workers during Tet so that workers looking for jobs and businesses needing to recruit have the opportunity to meet.

At the same time, the center's staff also provided advice and job referrals to more than 18,000 workers who received unemployment benefits to help them find new opportunities.

Recognizing that after Tet, manufacturing enterprises will increase recruitment of new employees, the Ho Chi Minh City Employment Service Center has also assigned staff to be on duty at bus stations and train stations to approach new laborers from the provinces coming to the city to find jobs, and introduce them to businesses with recruitment needs.

Ms. Hanh Thuc said that in February, the Center will coordinate with the City Youth Employment Service Center to organize the "Supporting Workers" and "Recruitment and Employment Festival 2025" programs to strengthen the connection between labor supply and demand.
