To serve the Lunar New Year market, cooperatives and farmers in Thach Ha (Ha Tinh) are actively cultivating vegetables and fruits.
With many years of experience in producing vegetables to serve the Tet market, these days, Mr. Le Huu Trung's family - head of Cooperative Group 1 in Tho village (Thach Lien commune) is working with other members of the group to focus on fertilizing 2.4 hectares of kohlrabi, cabbage, and cauliflower varieties.
People of Cooperative Group 1 in Tho village (Thach Lien commune) take care of vegetables and tubers ready to serve the Tet market.
Mr. Le Huu Trung said: “We grow vegetables to sell all year round but focus most on the Tet market. For vegetables such as cabbage and cauliflower, it takes 90-100 days to harvest, while for kohlrabi, the growing time is shorter, about 60 days. Vegetables and tubers grown by the cooperative are grown according to VietGAP standards, so they have high productivity, guaranteed quality, and are favored by consumers, so traders have to place orders early and come to the fields to buy.”
Along with the lush green vegetable fields in Thach Lien, in Tuong Son commune, farmers are also actively taking care of vegetables to prepare them for the Tet market. The whole commune currently has over 69 hectares of vegetable, root and fruit growing area, of which over 19 hectares are concentrated production area and 50 hectares are dispersed production area. As OCOP products, vegetables, root and fruit of Tuong Son commune have affirmed their brand and gradually dominated the market in and outside the province. It is expected that this year's Tet crop, Tuong Son vegetable growers will supply 130 tons of vegetables to the market.
The whole Thach Ha district currently has 938.6 hectares of vegetables and fruits.
Not only with vegetable farms, in the "capital" of Xuan Son flower village (Luu Vinh Son commune), people are busy taking care of and carrying out the final stages to produce the most beautiful flowers to serve the market for the 2024 Tet holiday.
According to Mr. Duong Dinh Nam - owner of a chrysanthemum garden in Xuan Son village, taking care of chrysanthemums during the period near Tet includes many steps and is done very meticulously. To have healthy chrysanthemums with beautiful flowers, growers must prune leaves and flower buds. Not only do they take great care, but they also have to invest in installing an electric lighting system that stays on all night to stimulate plant growth. From the 10th day of the 12th lunar month, it is time to cover the flowers with nets and flower buds so that the flowers bloom on time. It is expected that this year, Mr. Nam's family will supply the market with more than 70,000 chrysanthemums.
