Businessman Luong Thuc took his first university entrance exam in 1983. At the age of 17, he took his first university entrance exam but failed. Two years later, Luong Thuc took the exam again but still failed.
In 1986, his parents convinced him to enroll in a technical college. He dropped out a year later, saying he didn't like working with noisy machines.
In 1991, he worked in a wood factory, then got married and still dreamed of going to college. In 1992, Liang Shi took the university entrance exam for independent candidates because he was over the age limit. At that time, he passed the entrance exam to Nanjing Forestry University. However, he did not like it so he refused to enroll.

In 2001, the Chinese Ministry of Education removed the age limit for university entrance exams, so he decided to retake the exam. Due to work commitments, he was only able to take the exam in 2002 and 2006. Since 2010, Liang Shi has taken the exam every year.
In 2011, he and his son took the exam together, but he failed, while his son now has a master's degree. He always scored over 400 points in each exam. In 2008, he achieved the highest score of 469/750 points. In 2019, Luong Thuc achieved 462/750 points, but did not apply to any school because his goal was to enter Sichuan University.
In his old age, to attend this year's exam, Luong Thuc said that every day he leaves home at 8am, takes the subway to the tea shop to study. Then, he returns home at 9-10pm. When he is tired, he lies down on a chair in the tea shop to rest.
This is the 27th time he has taken this exam in the past 44 years.
"Sitting at home, I can't concentrate. Going to a tea shop, I feel comfortable. I can easily absorb all the knowledge. When I'm stressed studying for exams, I'll read books to relax and then continue studying," Luong Thuc said.
He admitted that it is difficult to wake up early at this age. He has also risen to establish his own construction materials business, but Luong Thuc still wants to fulfill his dream. He said: "I do not set a goal of entering Sichuan University. I will enroll in any school I pass. A key university is fine too. If I have enough points, I will attend."

When asked about the major he plans to apply for, he said he hasn't thought about it yet. "After I get my score, I'll consider it and make a decision." At 56 years old, the Sichuan man still feels pain over never having been called a "college student." Therefore, Liang Shi hopes this will be his last time taking the exam.
After the news of a man taking the university entrance exam 27 times spread on social media, there were many mixed opinions. Besides words of encouragement and praise for his perseverance, many people thought he was wasting his time.
In response to conflicting opinions, Luong Thuc said that each person has a different goal to pursue. "We cannot say who is right and who is wrong. As long as the law allows it, retaking the exam multiple times will not affect it," he said.
Previously, in 2022, Chinese media also stirred up a man named Duong Thuong Quan who also took the university entrance exam 15 times. After the exam, he passed the Nursing major at Shanghai Jiaotong University.
