Jay Rodriguez's goal check in the Bournemouth - Burnley match in round 10 on the evening of October 28 became the longest VAR check in Premier League history.
In the 88th minute, after a pass from Nathan Redmond, Jay Rodriguez scored against Bournemouth. Initially, the assistant referee raised his flag for offside. Then, VAR stepped in and ruled the goal valid. However, a few minutes later, the referee and the VAR room checked one last time and concluded that Rodriguez was offside.
The test lasted five minutes. The previous record was three minutes and 45 seconds, during the Sheffield-Tottenham match in November 2019.

With the goal disallowed, Rodriguez continues to wait for his first Premier League goal since April 2022. Charlie Taylor put Burnley ahead 1-0 at the start of the match, but Antoine Semenyo and Philip Billing helped the home team Bournemouth come back to win 2-1. The win helped Bournemouth move up to 17th place, with six points after 10 rounds. Meanwhile, Rodriguez and his teammates fell to second to last place with four points.
The fact that it took referees five minutes to determine Rodriguez's goal has caused a stir in English football. "If a player can be ruled both offside and not offside within minutes, it raises the question of whether the decisions on the pitch were clearly wrong from the start," the Daily Mail asked.
Burnley have just returned to the Premier League, after a season of relegation. Vincent Kompany's side have only beaten one other new team, Luton Town, 2-1. In their remaining nine games, Burnley have drawn 1-1 at Nottingham and lost eight others, including defeats to Man City 0-3, Tottenham 2-5, Chelsea 1-4 and Brentford 0-3.
