Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology is increasingly asserting its important role, actively supporting referees in managing matches well.
With 4 VAR cars meeting FIFA standards, VAR technology is being widely applied in LPBank V-League 2024-2025, and will begin to be applied in the first division - Bia Sao Vang 2024 - 2025.

VAR began to be applied in the V-League 1 tournament from the end of the 2023 season and has developed rapidly, from VAR appearing in only 3.4 matches/round, to almost all matches in V-League 1 being supported by VAR technology. By the end of round 12 of LPBank V-League 1-2024-2025 and an early match of round 13, 78/85 matches of V.League 1 were supported by VAR (rate of 91.8%). In the 2023-2024 season, VAR has also been applied from the quarter-finals of the National Cup.
The first division has gone through 8 rounds. The exciting competition is taking place in both the championship race and the race to avoid relegation. In particular, the race for the championship - and at the same time owning a direct ticket to play in V-League 1, between the 3 candidates Phu Dong Ninh Binh Club, Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc and PVF-CAND is taking place extremely tensely and attractively.

Therefore, the appearance of VAR technology in the first division will greatly support referees in managing matches, ensuring maximum fairness for the teams. It is expected that the first match in the tournament to apply VAR will be the "top match" between Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc Club and Phu Dong Ninh Binh Club in round 9, taking place on February 15, at Binh Phuoc Stadium.
The match will be very interesting because Hoang Duc has recovered from his injury and is expected to play. His talent will contribute to the audience with technical and effective moves. Because he plays for the first division, Hoang Duc has only "met" VAR since the 2024 AFF Cup. It's just a pity that because of injury, Cong Phuong missed the opportunity to compete with Hoang Duc in this hot match.
Waiting for FIFA's response on VAR
According to the plan, at least 10 matches of the 2024/25 Golden Star Beer National Championship will be selected to apply VAR. The tournament organizers will evaluate and select according to the nature of the match to register with FIFA to allow the application of VAR.
With the determination of VFF and VPF Company, technical preparation conditions and training of operational personnel are regularly deployed. There have been 3 successful training courses for VAR, AVAR, and technical referees (RO), and it is expected that the 4th training course for VAR, AVAR referees will start from the end of March 2025.
After 3 successful VAR referee training courses, Vietnam now has 36 VAR and AVAR referees certified by FIFA. VAR technology is increasingly playing an important supporting role in Vietnam's professional tournaments, helping matches become fairer and minimizing controversial reactions. In just over two years, VAR has become familiar, affirming itself as an important part of organizing professional tournaments and also an important development highlight for Vietnam's professional football tournaments.
