Currently, artisans in Thanh Ha pottery village, Thanh Ha ward, Hoi An city, Quang Nam province are busy kneading to create snake mascots to serve the Lunar New Year 2025.
Accordingly, at ceramic production facilities, artisans are diligently completing the final stages to produce complete snake mascots and prepare them for display to serve people and tourists on the occasion of Lunar New Year 2025.
Mr. Le Van Nhat (36 years old), in Thanh Ha pottery village said: "At this time, we temporarily put aside our daily work such as producing cups, bowls, jars and other items to focus on molding a pair of ceramic snake mascots.
According to Mr. Nhat, since November 2024, he has received an order to make a pair of snake mascots from the People's Committee of Thanh Ha Ward. After that, he came up with an idea and sketched the shape of the snake on paper. Next, he prepared the clay and quickly started creating the shape of the snake. This pair of ceramic snake mascots is 50cm high, 40cm wide, and 60cm long. Currently, Mr. Nhat is completing the final step of scaling before firing. It is expected that the firing process will take about 1 day.
At the pottery production facility of the young craftsman Nguyen Viet Lam (28 years old). Mr. Lam is also urgently completing the pair of mascots for Tet At Ty 2025 to hand over to Thanh Ha Ward People's Committee in time.
Mr. Lam shared that the pair of mascots that he imagined and designed himself and then started to make were king cobras with one male and one female. Mr. Lam encountered many difficulties in creating the snake mascot due to the erratic rainy weather. Because of heavy rain, the soil was soft and difficult to create the mascot. In addition, making the scales even was a step that required dexterity and high concentration. It took Mr. Lam 4 days to complete the scaling of this pair of ceramic snakes.
Although this pair of ceramic snake mascots has not been completed, in recent days, many tourists have come to visit Mr. Lam's facility to take souvenir photos and check in here. Among them, there are Western tourists who are very interested, attentively watching and admiring the skillful hands of the artisans.
Mr. Truong Huong, Vice Chairman of Thanh Ha Ward People's Committee said: "On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, the local government ordered potters to make a total of 6 ceramic snake mascots. It is expected that in the middle of the 12th lunar month, all mascots will be handed over to the ward to serve as decorations along the road leading to the pottery village. Hopefully, visitors to Thanh Ha pottery village during Tet will be delighted with these unique mascots."
