Nghe An is considering opening a flight route from Vinh to China.

On the morning of January 8, Nghe An Department of Transport held a conference to review transport work in 2023 and deploy tasks for 2024. Attending the conference were leaders of the Department and transport business units in the province.

In 2023, Nghe An Department of Transport directed the comprehensive, synchronous, drastic and flexible implementation of tasks and solutions for transport management activities. In addition, transport businesses and units have invested in repairing and purchasing new vehicles to improve the quality of transport services.

Currently, the Department is managing 323 transport business units with a total of 7,435 vehicles. Of which: 44 passenger transport units; 258 freight transport units; 21 mixed passenger and freight units; 18 bus stations have been announced to be put into operation.

During the year, the Department issued transport business licenses to 72 units and 3,489 transport business badges. New international road transport licenses between Vietnam and Laos were issued to 8 units and 6,348 Vietnam-Laos intermodal transport licenses were issued. The total number of inland waterway vehicles registered by the Department was 801.

In 2023, the unit also revoked badges for 2,864 vehicles due to speeding violations and revoked the transport business licenses of 49 transport business units.

Regarding air transport, Vinh International Airport currently maintains 9 domestic routes, with a frequency of 26 to 27 take-offs/landings/day. In addition, there is an international flight from Vinh to Taiwan in the form of a charter flight of 1 flight/month. In 2023, the number of passengers passing through the airport is estimated to reach 2.5 million people (down 5% compared to the same period in 2022). The Department of Transport is coordinating with the Southeast Economic Zone Management Board to advise on opening a Vinh - China flight route.

The Department is coordinating with the Southeast Economic Zone Management Board and investors to accelerate the construction of wharf No. 6 of Cua Lo port; invest in a number of items in DKC port; Cua Lo deep-water port. In 2023, the volume of goods passing through the port is estimated to reach 13.3 million tons.

Regarding railway transport, the North-South railway line passing through Nghe An province is 95.5 km long, passing through 52 wards, communes and towns of 7 districts, towns and cities, serving freight and passenger trains in the area. The number of passengers boarding trains at railway stations in the province is estimated at 102,000 people, an increase of 8% over the same period in 2022.

At the same time, the Department promotes administrative reform. In 2023, the number of procedures with reduced time is 24/49 procedures; corresponding to a reduction of 81/182 working hours, reaching a rate of 44.5%.

The conference also discussed solutions and directions for activities in 2024. The department focused on advising the Provincial People's Committee to develop and issue legal documents to serve the State management of transportation. Continue to direct, urge, and guide transport business units to improve the quality of vehicles and the quality of passenger and cargo services.

At the same time, promote the dissemination of laws on ensuring traffic order and safety; at the same time, strengthen inspection work to rectify and strictly handle violations in transport business activities to prevent and handle the situation of illegal vehicles, illegal stations, overloaded and oversized cargo vehicles; passenger vehicles disguised as fixed routes, speeding, etc.

Along with that, continue to call on businesses to invest in exploiting and opening new passenger transport routes by car on fixed routes, bus routes according to the planning approved by the Provincial People's Committee to serve the travel needs of the people. Develop plans and urge passenger transport businesses to prepare adequate means to serve passenger transport during holidays, Tet, and the 2024 tourist season.
