After the damage caused by storm No. 3, in the livestock sector in many localities in the province, many households, although heavily affected, have urgently cleaned up their barns and begun to restore production.
Storm No. 3 caused damage to the entire barn infrastructure and 10,000 poultry and aquaculture ponds of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy's family (Binh Luc Thuong area, Hong Phong ward, Dong Trieu town), estimated at 1.7 billion VND. During the flood caused by Kinh Thay river overflowing, with the help of neighbors, her family was able to keep 5,000 chickens to continue rebuilding production. Ms. Thuy confided: No one wants this damage, but as long as there are people, we can rebuild. Recently, after the water receded, I cleaned, disinfected the barn and surrounding area with lime powder, then brought the chickens back to the barn to raise. Currently, some of the chickens are weak, I am also treating them with medicine to get well soon. Households that suffered damage after the storm like me and some surrounding households also hope to receive financial support to have resources to restore their family economy.

The damage to the agricultural sector of Dong Trieu town was 1,700/2,600 billion VND of the total damage to the whole town caused by the storm. The livestock sector in particular was greatly affected with more than 239,000 livestock and poultry dying due to flooding and being swept away, accounting for nearly 59% of the total damage to livestock and poultry in the whole province. Currently, along with checking, reviewing, and confirming the damage for people to serve as a basis for support, specialized agencies are guiding people to clean and disinfect the livestock environment after rain and floods to destroy pathogens, ensuring safe livestock farming.
Grandma Luu Thi Duong, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Dong Trieu Town, said: Department The town's economic and professional departments continue to support damaged communes and wards and guide people to bury and destroy livestock and poultry killed by storms and floods; organize cleaning of barns, spraying disinfectants in low-lying areas, prolonged flooding, and high-risk areas to overcome environmental disadvantages and prepare conditions for people to resume production activities. The town directs to continue to deploy periodic vaccination to villages and livestock households.
The damage to the livestock industry in the whole province after the storm was huge with over 409,000 cattle and poultry dead, most of which were in the following localities: Dong Trieu, Quang Yen, Ha Long, Uong Bi, Tien Yen. Currently, the Department of Agriculture is focusing on providing professional support to the affected localities so that people can rest assured to restore their herds.

Ms. Chu Thi Thu Thuy, Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) said: The Department has assigned staff to go to affected localities to coordinate with local veterinary staff to go to facilities and households to guide people to overcome and renovate barns and livestock environments, especially disinfecting, cleaning, disinfecting, sprinkling lime powder; checking and counting damages as well as the health status of livestock and poultry to be able to support increased resistance as well as disease prevention vaccines. The unit also guides localities to base on Instruction No. 2160/SNNPTNT-STC (dated July 6, 2017) of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Department of Finance on instructions on some contents to support the restoration of agricultural production in areas damaged by natural disasters and epidemics in the province according to Decision No. 1568/2017/QD-UBND of the Provincial People's Committee, promptly update for people to quickly complete support for damage after the storm so that people have conditions to restore their herds.

From now until Lunar New Year, there are still more than 4 months left, which is enough for a short-term livestock cycle for poultry and pigs. The Department of Agriculture encourages and supports in every way so that livestock facilities and households, after cleaning the environment, select breeds of clear origin, provided by reputable suppliers with quarantine certificates; fully vaccinate according to regulations to quickly restore normal production; absolutely do not re-herd when livestock farms do not ensure environmental and disease safety.
