Russia-Ukraine War 10/1: Russia and the US may soon negotiate as many signs show that the two sides' views are progressing on resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
Speaking to reporters at his Florida residence, US President-elect Donald Trump announced a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Politician Donal Trump emphasized that all parties are currently preparing for this important meeting.
“ He (Russian President Vladimir Putin-PV) wants to meet and we are organizing this activity ,” Mr. Trump declared.
At the same time, the new US leader avoided directly answering the question of whether a trilateral meeting between the heads of state of the US, Russia and China would take place. He said this would be determined later.
Mr. Trump has announced that he wants to meet Mr. Putin.
On January 7, the US President-elect said he wanted to hold negotiations with Mr. Putin in the next 6 months.
“ I hope to have negotiations within the next six months ,” the US President-elect stressed.

The politician also added that he knew about the Russian leader's willingness to contact him: " I know Mr. Putin wants to meet. I don't think it's appropriate until the 20th ." Mr. Trump noted that he does not like the current conflict because many young people and soldiers are being killed every day. However, he did not specify the approximate date of contact with the head of Russia.
In December 2024, Mr. Trump said he looked forward to meeting with the Russian President to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
“ President Putin said he wants to meet with me as soon as possible. So we’ll wait, we have to end that war ,” Trump said.
Kremlin speaks out on prospects of Trump-Putin contact
In late December 2024, Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Trump still had no motivation to contact the Russian leader.
The Kremlin has received proposals from other countries to host a meeting between Putin and Trump to negotiate peace, Russian presidential aide for international affairs Yuri Ushakov said.
“ We have received a number of proposals for a platform for negotiations between Putin and Trump from various countries. I will not say which countries they are. However, it is worth noting that such proposals have been made before and continue to be made ,” the Russian presidential aide for international affairs revealed.
Russia appreciates plan to quickly end Ukraine conflict
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that he was very skeptical about whether the US President-elect would be able to quickly resolve the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, the politician did not start his presidency in a boring way. Mr. Medvedev believes that Mr. Trump's loud statements, in addition to doubts about a quick solution to the conflict in Ukraine, are also explained by the "slow life" of the US economy and the lack of prospects in the fight against migrants over the years.

First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Alexey Chepa believes that Mr. Trump can help end the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, Russia hopes that the US leadership will stop supplying weapons to Ukraine and stop NATO's advance eastward.
