Cross-border rescue

A devastating earthquake struck Myanmar on March 28, measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, leaving thousands dead, injured and missing. Scenes of devastation spread across the epicenter, with buildings collapsing, cries for help mixed in the dust, and sirens echoing.

In that context, Vietnam did not stand aside. With the spirit of “humanity without borders” and “loyalty in times of need”, a special rescue force was urgently dispatched to Myanmar, bringing not only modern rescue equipment but also the spirit of unconditional sharing of the Vietnamese people.

Just two days after the earthquake disaster, on March 30, a special working group of 80 soldiers from the Vietnam People's Army and 26 officers and soldiers of the People's Public Security arrived in the heavily affected area of Myanmar.

This is not just an ordinary rescue team, but the crystallization of the intelligence, discipline, courage and compassion of the Vietnamese people. The participating forces include commanding officers, military medics, elite rescuers from the Engineering Corps; officers, staff and trained service dogs from the Border Guard; fire prevention, firefighting, rescue and salvage teams, and highly skilled experts from the Ministry of Public Security. All were urgently mobilized, closely coordinated, carrying tons of aid goods, medicine, and modern equipment to serve the search for survivors and humanitarian assistance.

The rescue team not only brought help, but also demonstrated Vietnam’s courageous presence in the global humanitarian mission. This action clearly affirmed the proactive, responsible and active foreign policy of the Party, State and people of Vietnam.

In the face of the disaster, in response to the call of the people of Myanmar, Vietnam shared not only with words, but also with concrete, practical, organized and disciplined actions. It was a sharing that transcended all geographical, cultural and religious differences - creating a beautiful image of international solidarity.

During the rescue operation in Myanmar, Vietnamese officers and soldiers rushed into the heart of the rubble, facing the dangers of broken concrete, uneven ground and harsh weather conditions. However, they were not alone in their mission, because the spirit of “no one is left behind” is a command from the heart. Children were pulled out of the rubble, old people received pills and sips of water from the hands of Vietnamese forces - all are living proof of the noble value of humanitarian spirit in the new era.

“No one is left behind”

Not only does Vietnam demonstrate its sense of responsibility, it also demonstrates its ability to organize, manage and implement international standard rescue missions. This is not the first time the Vietnam People's Army and the People's Public Security have undertaken international missions to assist in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters. The rescue force has always completed its missions excellently, leaving a good impression on the host country and the international community.

The presence of Vietnamese rescue forces in Myanmar is not only to save people, but also to affirm Vietnam's prestige and capacity in international defense cooperation. The image of Vietnamese rescue forces urgently setting up field camps, using modern equipment to search for signs of life, and coordinating smoothly with international rescue forces is a strong affirmation: Vietnam is not only willing to share but also has the capacity to contribute to global peacekeeping and humanitarian missions.

Vietnam's timely and highly responsible actions are also a call to the world for the role of solidarity and sharing in difficult times. In an increasingly volatile world, expanding cooperation and supporting each other when natural disasters, wars or epidemics occur is the only way for humanity to exist in peace and develop sustainably. Therefore, Vietnam's humanitarian support in Myanmar is not simply a gesture, but also a commitment to the international community - a proactive, humane, positive and willing-to-contribute Vietnam.

Every handshake between the Vietnamese rescue team and the Myanmar rescue team, every grateful look, every tear of the rescued people is a connection that overcomes all barriers.

“No one left behind” is not just a slogan. It is a commitment, an action, the blood and sweat of the Vietnamese rescue force in the earthquake-affected areas. And it is these specific, responsible actions that are gradually affirming that Vietnam is not only integrating, but also contributing to building a safe, humane and loving world.

Sharing with reporters of the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoan, a former soldier (Phuong Mai ward, Hanoi) said that the image of the Vietnamese rescue team going to Myanmar made him extremely emotional and proud. This action is not only a material help but also a great source of spiritual encouragement, giving strength to the people of Myanmar to overcome the difficult period.

Vietnam’s sincere and timely support will help ease the pain of loss, help the people of Myanmar stabilize their lives and rebuild the country. This is also a testament to the good friendship and solidarity between the two peoples of Vietnam and Myanmar ,” Mr. Hoan expressed.

As of April 5, the death toll from the earthquake in Myanmar on March 28 has risen to more than 3,300. Local media reported 4,850 people injured and 220 missing.

According to Doctors Without Borders (MSF), about 500 buildings have completely collapsed and 800 others are partially damaged, creating huge challenges for rescue and medical care teams.
