TASS news agency quoted Moscow's announcement as saying that the combined fleet participating in the exercise includes ships from the Russian Pacific Fleet and the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy.
The Russian combined fleet includes the corvettes Gromky, Sovershenny, Hero of Russia Aldar Tsydenzhapov and support ships of the Pacific Fleet.
The Chinese side mobilized the destroyers Tay Ninh and Vo Tich, the frigate Lam Nghi and the supply ship Thai Ho to participate.
The ships practiced various defensive tactics in the central Sea of Japan. The exercise included maneuvering in various formations, air defense, anti-submarine warfare, and mine defense.
The crews practiced repelling an air attack from a simulated force, firing artillery at targets, navigating a mine-hazard zone and destroying floating mines.
In addition, the two sides also practiced combat with high-speed unmanned boats, unmanned aerial vehicles and conducted night shooting at targets at sea.
A day earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning announced that the ongoing Russia-China Ocean 2024 naval exercise aims to "strengthen strategic coordination between the two militaries, as well as enhance the ability to jointly address security threats."
The Chinese Navy is participating in the Ocean 2024 strategic command and staff exercise in Russia. In addition, the Russian and Chinese navies also plan to conduct a joint patrol mission in the Pacific Ocean.
Previously, on September 9, the Chinese Ministry of National Defense announced that the country will participate in the Ocean 2024 strategic command and staff exercise in Russia.
The two countries have also planned to conduct a joint naval and air force exercise called North-Joint 2024, which is scheduled to take place in the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk this month.
