Russia launches spacecraft with American astronaut on board

On the morning of April 8, Russian media reported that the Soyuz-2.1a rocket was launched from Baikonur (Kazakhstan) carrying the Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft carrying Russian astronauts Sergei Ryzhikov, Alexei Zubritsky and NASA (US) astronaut Jonathan Kim to the International Space Station (ISS).

The rocket was launched as planned at 8:47 Moscow time from launch pad No. 31 of the Baikonur Cosmodrome.

The flight of the spacecraft to the ISS will take place on a two-orbit ultra-short trajectory and will take 3 hours and 17 minutes. At 12:04 Moscow time, the Soyuz spacecraft docked with the Russian Prichal module.

The crew's flight to the ISS is expected to last 245 days.

The flight is part of a series of activities organized to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. "Soyuz-2.1a" was named "Victory Rocket" and was decorated with commemorative symbols.

Before the flight, sharing about the ground training process, Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexei Zubritsky said that the feeling inside the spacecraft was similar to sitting in a new car and that this was the effort of many people who had put their efforts into building and preparing this spacecraft.

The launch of the Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft is an important event for Russian space travel because the ship also carries NASA astronauts to the ISS.
