Russia launched 30 missiles, Ukraine responded targeting Moscow?

The Ukrainian Air Force announced this morning, August 6, that its air defense forces had shot down 30 missiles and 27 suicide drones overnight in Russia's latest mass attack, according to the Kyiv Independent .

Russia launched 14 Kalibr missiles and 3 Kinzhal hypersonic missiles in the first attack on the evening of August 5. Of these, 12 Kalibr missiles were destroyed but no information was provided about the Kinzhal missiles.

Russia continued its attack in the early hours of August 6, launching Shahed-136/131 UAVs from the southeast, Kalibr missiles from the Black Sea, and Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles from Tu-96 strategic bombers in the Caspian Sea, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

During the second strike, Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed all 27 UAVs, 5 out of 6 Kalibr missiles and 13 out of 20 Kh-101/Kh-555 missiles.

Several areas were targeted in both attacks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that facilities of aircraft engine manufacturer Motor Sich in Zaporizhzhia province, as well as several unspecified targets in Khmelnytskyi province, were hit.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry announced today that its forces attacked Ukrainian air bases in Rivne, Khmelnytskyi and Zaporizhzhia provinces, according to Interfax news agency. The Russian Defense Ministry also announced that the new attacks were successful, but did not provide details.

In addition, TASS news agency today quoted spokesman Alexander Savchuk of the Operations Center (Russia) as saying that soldiers had deflected an attack by the Ukrainian army in the Krasny Liman area of ​​Donetsk province, killing 100 people and capturing 4.

Mr. Savchuk also said that soldiers from the Operations Center eliminated an M777 howitzer with a Lancet suicide UAV and destroyed an Msta-B howitzer during counter-battery fire.

According to Mr. Savchuk, the air defense system shot down four Ukrainian UAVs and three rockets from the US-made high-mobility artillery rocket system (HIMARS).

Moscow capital is targeted by UAV again?

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said today that a UAV tried to bypass Russian air defense systems and approach the city earlier in the day, but was shot down, according to RT.

"A drone tried to fly towards Moscow today, at around 11 o'clock. It was destroyed by air defense forces during its approach," Mayor Sobyanin wrote on the Telegram messaging app.

Mayor Sobyanin did not provide any further details about the incident. The type and origin of the UAV remain unclear.

The Russian Defense Ministry said that the Russian Armed Forces had thwarted an attempt by Ukraine to carry out a drone attack on facilities south of Moscow, in Moscow region, but the UAV was destroyed by air defense systems, according to TASS news agency.

"Today, at 11:27 a.m., an attempt by the Kyiv authorities to carry out a terrorist attack using drones on facilities in the Moscow region was foiled. There were no casualties and no damage as a result of the prevented terrorist attack," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Previously, the Russian Defense Ministry accused Ukrainian UAVs of targeting the capital Moscow on July 31 and August 1, both times attacking the city's financial district, according to RT.

There is no information yet on Kyiv's reaction to the new accusations from the Russian Defense Ministry.

Ukraine accused of using cluster munitions to target university

TASS news agency this morning, August 6, quoted the delegation of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of War Crimes of Ukraine (JCCC), accusing the Ukrainian armed forces of firing cluster munitions into the city of Donetsk twice on the evening of August 5.

"Due to the latest attack on Donetsk, the first building of the University of Economics and Trade is on fire," Alexei Kulemzin, the Russian-appointed mayor of Donetsk, wrote on the Telegram messaging app, according to Reuters.

Ukraine received supplies of cluster munitions from the US last month, and pledged to use them only against areas where Russian troops are concentrated.

There is no immediate response from Ukraine to the allegations. Both sides deny targeting civilians or civilian infrastructure.
