Enhancing friendship and cooperation between Hanoi and China

Within the framework of Hanoi's foreign affairs activities in 2024 in Cuba, the Hanoi delegation led by Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi Nguyen Lan Huong visited, worked and met with the leaders of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples (ICAP).

The delegation included Standing Committee member of the City Party Committee, Head of the City Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Commission Do Anh Tuan and leaders of departments, branches and units under Hanoi City.

At the reception, Mr. Victor Gaute Lopez - Deputy Director of ICAP, warmly welcomed and thanked the Hanoi delegation for visiting Cuba, highly appreciating the visit on the occasion of many important events in the relationship between the two countries, especially towards the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Year in 2025.

Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi City Nguyen Lan Huong presented gifts to the leaders of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples.

Expressing his emotion and gratitude to Ms. Nguyen Lan Huong and members of the Hanoi delegation for visiting and working with ICAP, he affirmed that the loyal, exemplary, and steadfast solidarity between the people of the two countries is a valuable asset, and it is necessary to promote propaganda and education for the young generation of Cuba to better understand and preserve the tradition of Vietnam-Cuba brotherhood.

The Deputy Director of ICAP said that Cuba currently has more than 30 schools with names related to Vietnam and Cuba always creates conditions for delegations of Vietnamese teachers and students to visit and exchange teaching. 2025 is a year with many special events for the two countries, especially the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba. He hopes that there will be many people-to-people diplomacy activities between the two countries and the two capitals of Hanoi and Lahabana.

From there, the Deputy Director of ICAP suggested that the two sides should increase delegation exchanges both at the central and local levels, in order to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen relations between the Vietnamese and Cuban people.

At the meeting, the Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi respectfully thanked the leaders of ICAP for taking the time to receive and work with the Hanoi delegation and expressed his pleasure to visit and work with ICAP on the occasion of the two countries Vietnam and Cuba having and are having activities towards the 65th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.

After the State visit to Cuba in September 2024 by General Secretary and President To Lam, it marked an important moment of historical significance, demonstrating the special brotherly friendship over the past 65 years between the two nations, half a world apart, which has always been considered a valuable asset highly valued by the Party, State and People of the two countries.

Informing the leaders of ICAP about the socio-economic development of Hanoi, Ms. Nguyen Lan Huong said that Hanoi has just successfully organized a series of events to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital and the 25th anniversary of being honored by UNESCO as a “City for Peace”. Hanoi also participates in the creative city network.

Discussing the cooperative relationship between Hanoi and Havana, the Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City informed that, based on the Cooperation Agreement for the period of 2023-2028 between the Hanoi Party Committee and the Havana Party Committee, Hanoi's agencies and units are promoting cooperation with Havana's agencies. In 2022-2023, with the approval of the City Party Committee, the Hanoi People's Committee supported 4,000 tons of rice for the capital Havana, Cuba with a total cost of 73,234 million VND to implement social security and poverty reduction.

The Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association of the City maintains regular relations and cooperation with the Cuban Embassy in Hanoi; regularly organizes celebrations on major holidays such as: National Day, Cuban Revolution Victory Day, Diplomatic Relations Establishment Day, Memorial Ceremony of the outstanding Cuban thinker, revolutionary and cultural figure José Martí.

In addition, Ms. Nguyen Lan Huong suggested increasing friendly exchange activities, forums, meetings between youth, teachers, and students; exchanging experts and medical advances between Hanoi and Havana.
