This holiday season, director Ly Hai and producer Minh Ha continue to release the "Face Off 8: The Embrace of the Sun" film series. This family-themed film, primarily shot in Binh Thuan and Ninh Thuan provinces, features a strong cast, including teenage stars like Bao Ngoc, Hao Nhien, and Hai My. The film is an emotional journey about father-son relationships, family, generational conflicts, and the pursuit of passion… promising to attract audiences after the success of "Face Off 7: A Wish" during the April 30th holiday season last year.
Speaking at a recent showcase in Ho Chi Minh City, director Ly Hai shared that throughout the long journey of the "Lat Mat" film series, he has always felt happy and grateful for the love and support from the audience. Therefore, he wants to reciprocate this affection with films that evoke genuine emotions. "Lat Mat 8: The Embrace of the Sun," with its family theme and many elaborate and heartfelt scenes, is hoped to be well-received by the audience.
Released alongside "Face Off 8: The Embrace of the Sun," director Victor Vũ's film "Detective Kiên" is a sequel to "The Last Wife," which premiered in 2023 and grossed over 100 billion VND. The script is inspired by the novel "Lake of Resentment" by author Hồng Thái – Victor Vũ's father-in-law. The film combines elements of detective work, horror, and the supernatural, featuring a cast including Đinh Ngọc Diệp, Quốc Huy, Tín Nguyễn, Quốc Anh, and others.
Detective Kien, directed by Victor Vu, boasts significant investment in costumes and settings. Following the success of a series of popular films such as: The Hero's Destiny, Scandal: The Red Carpet Secret, Bride Wars, I See Yellow Flowers on Green Grass, and Blue Eyes..., Detective Kien is highly anticipated by audiences this April.
Also released in April, but before Detective Kien and Flip Face 8: The Embrace of the Sun, is the horror film Finding the Corpse: The Headless Ghost, directed by Bui Van Hai, starring People's Artist Hong Van, Meritorious Artist Huu Chau, Tien Luat, Ngo Kien Huy, etc. Despite being a horror film, it still offers moments of laughter for the audience through the unique corpse-finding journey of a body collector and an ambulance driver.
"Making a splash" since the beginning of April, the film "Underground Tunnels: The Sun in the Darkness," directed by Bui Thac Chuyen, is still being screened in theaters nationwide. The film has surpassed 130 billion VND in revenue and continues to attract a large audience. In the context of the historic April days, with many activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, the film is a choice for those interested in learning about the fierce wartime experiences of their ancestors. Even in the darkness of the underground tunnels, the patriotism, courage, resilience, and unwavering sacrifice of the guerrilla soldiers shine brightly…
With four films (two horror films, one historical war film, and one family film) hitting theaters this April, audiences will have plenty of choices to enjoy, appreciate, and support the creative and passionate Vietnamese filmmakers during the upcoming long holiday.
