With the desire of youth and the spirit of daring to dream, Hoang Tuan Minh (class 12AL2, Nguyen Sieu High School) is the first Vietnamese male student to receive a full scholarship from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) to major in Artificial Intelligence.
Motivation from father's dream
Hoang Tuan Minh is an excellent student for many years at Nguyen Sieu Inter-level High School. Tuan Minh's mother, Trinh Nga, shared that since he was a child, Minh was passionate about learning about everything around him. Minh especially likes playing games but never neglects his studies.
“Minh has a natural inclination towards studying engineering, partly due to the influence and encouragement he received from his father,” said Ms. Nga.
A few years ago, after his father passed away due to a serious illness, Minh was motivated to focus on his studies and seriously pursue a career in Artificial Intelligence. By researching this field in depth, Minh realized that Artificial Intelligence did not just appear recently, but had existed for a long time, right in the video games he played when he was a child.
Interested in studying Artificial Intelligence and wishing to be trained in an international environment, Minh has been researching, studying and prioritizing his time for natural science subjects. Realizing the situation after his father passed away, Minh is even more determined to study well to make his mother feel at ease and become an example for his younger brother to follow, as well as pursue his own dream.

With a passion and determination to pursue the field of Artificial Intelligence, Minh applied for a scholarship to study this major at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. “I still remember the advice of my teachers, that I should dare to dream big, not be afraid of difficulties, and dare to be determined to conquer valuable scholarships from top universities,” Minh recalled.
Minh carefully prepared for each round, from submitting application, selection to direct interview and won the worthy result of a full scholarship (100%) for 4 years of study in Artificial Intelligence at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Write big dreams from simple things
As a diligent and self-disciplined student, Hoang Tuan Minh always maintained excellent academic performance in high school. Not only did he achieve a high average score every year, Minh also equipped himself with foreign language knowledge (IELTS 7.5) to prepare for his dream of studying abroad. In addition, Minh participated in many competitions and won awards such as: Top of the International Chemistry Quiz Competition ICQ 2024; Bronze Medal in the Science and Technology Olympiad, Encouragement Prize in Physics at the cluster level...
The male student also participates in many extracurricular activities, arts, sports, and has won awards in swimming, cycling, and basketball at school. The 17-year-old student is also an active member of fundraising, environmental protection, and charity cooking clubs.
At home, outside of school and housework, Minh plays the guitar as a way to learn more about himself and listen to his inner self. "During my upcoming study abroad in Hong Kong, the guitar will be my friend to share with me the interesting moments of student life," Minh said.

CUHK is in the top 32 in the world and its Artificial Intelligence major is in the top 20 in the world. Currently in Vietnam, only Hoang Tuan Minh has received a full scholarship for the Artificial Intelligence major of this university.
Although he also received several other scholarships from top universities in the US, Australia, etc., Minh decided to choose CUHK.
Sharing the secret to "winning" the scholarship package, Hoang Tuan Minh said: "In addition to my passion for Artificial Intelligence, I received enthusiastic support from teachers at school. The experience in filling out applications, ranking major preferences as well as answering interviews from 'seniors' at school, along with the support of my family, helped me gain confidence and motivation to conquer the scholarship."
In September 2025, Hoang Tuan Minh will enroll at CUHK. The male student shared that he feels completely confident in pursuing this field, especially when the field of science and technology in Vietnam is increasingly receiving investment and attention from the Government and the State.
