In Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, China, the story of a young teacher's perseverance in overcoming adversity has attracted the attention of netizens in the billion-people country, according to the South China Morning Post .
With a doctorate from a prestigious Asian university, the young man's story is a testament to mental strength in the face of adversity.
Tran Bin was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) at the age of 7. By the age of 12, he was unable to walk and was confined to a wheelchair. Daily tasks such as dressing and eating required the support of his family. However, Tran Bin did not let his illness hinder his efforts to study.
The love of his parents became a solid support for the young man. Tran Ban's mother quit her job and devoted all her time to taking care of him. She often carried him on her back, climbing 5 flights of stairs to take her son to school.
Mrs. Tran not only carries her children on her back, but also nurtures their dreams and helps them make them come true. “As long as you want to study, I will always be by your side and carry you,” Mrs. Tran comforted.
When Tran Ban became a student, his mother moved to Guangzhou, lived with him for 4 years of university, and took care of him every step of the way.
His father, a laborer, worked various jobs over the years to earn enough money to support the family and pay for his children's education.
Not letting his parents down, Tran Binh always achieved excellent results and was at the top of his class. In 2012, the male student was admitted to major in psychology at Sun Yat-sen University, one of the most prestigious universities in Guangdong province.
Thanks to his excellent academic performance in his undergraduate degree, Tran Binh was directly admitted to Tsinghua University. In June 2023, he completed his doctoral program and at the end of that year, he became a lecturer at Huizhou City College.
In the classroom, Tran Ban is not only a lecturer, but also a symbol of faith and perseverance. With his dedicated teaching style, patience and approachable approach, Mr. Tran has created deep connections with many students.
“Every time I feel lost or lack confidence, I think of Professor Tran Ban and how he overcame countless difficulties,” a student shared. Many students also idolize and respectfully call Tran Ban “Doctor in a Wheelchair.”
Sharing with the press, Tran Ban said that he always appreciates his mother's sacrifices. "The biggest source of encouragement for me comes from my family and friends. My mother not only carried me to school every day but was always there to take care of me even when I went to university," he expressed.
Looking back on the journey of more than 20 years, even his parents are surprised at what they have overcome. Tran Ban's mother shared that she does not understand how her family has managed to overcome so many difficulties. She and her husband are often so busy with work and daily worries that they rarely have time to think about the future. They just know how to persevere and move forward day by day.
Recalling the past, Tran Ban said: “There were times when I wondered why life was unfair to me. But then I read that if you try a little harder than others every day, you will succeed. That saying has become my motto in life.”
Tran Ban’s story spread strongly on social networks, attracting the attention and sympathy of the community. Many comments expressed admiration: “A wonderful mother and an excellent son. I wish you both good health and happiness, so that together you can continue to write inspiring stories.”
