Hanoi strives to no longer bury garbage
Regarding voters' recommendations regarding Hanoi's plan and preparations to implement waste classification at source, Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Le Thanh Nam said that the city and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment have closely followed the provisions of the Law on Environmental Protection. By December 31, 2024 at the latest, Hanoi will implement waste classification at source in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Environmental Protection.
Regarding the classification of domestic solid waste, voters suggested that the Department of Natural Resources and Environment evaluate the pilot model of classification, collection, transportation, and treatment of domestic solid waste with a closed cycle in the districts of Hoan Kiem, Ba Dinh, Dong Da, Hai Ba Trung, and Nam Tu Liem to serve as a basis for replication throughout the city.
Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Le Thanh Nam said that in recent years, Hanoi has tried to no longer bury waste. The Department has reported, reviewed, and piloted a closed-cycle model of classifying, collecting, transporting, and treating solid household waste in the districts of Hoan Kiem, Ba Dinh, Dong Da, Hai Ba Trung, and Nam Tu Liem to serve as a basis for replication throughout the city.
Up to now, Hoan Kiem district has deployed simultaneously in 18/18 wards; Ba Dinh district deployed in 3/14 wards, and will continue to deploy in the remaining wards by the end of this month; Dong Da district piloted 1 ward, Hai Ba Trung district piloted 1 ward, Nam Tu Liem district piloted 2 wards.
Regarding the proposal of voters of Hoan Kiem district related to the issue of waste collection and treatment, Chairman of Hoan Kiem District People's Committee Pham Tuan Long said that the district has paid much attention to this field in the past; especially waste from businesses in the area has a plan for classification, collection and support from units. In the coming time, the district still determines that this work must be focused on in the long term to ensure good environmental sanitation.
Strive for 100% of communes to have clean water supply
Regarding the petition of voters of Hoai Duc district sent to the Department of Construction about the slow clean water supply work in the district, why? Director of the Department of Construction Vo Nguyen Phong said that the urban area has basically covered the clean water supply network and implemented according to national standards. There are 124 communes and towns that have not been supplied with water, but in the first 6 months of the year, 11 communes have been supplemented with clean water supply systems.
In particular, in early June 2024, 9 communes in Phuc Tho district started the pipeline system and it is expected that 21 communes in Thuong Tin district will be supplied with water. Thus, in 2024, it is expected that 54/124 communes will be invested in and supplied with clean water in the area.
For Hoai Duc district, there are 2 water supply units: Ha Dong Water Supply Company and Tay Ha Noi Clean Water Company. Currently, the units are strengthening inspection and improving quality to supply to the areas that voters have recommended. Of which, there are about 3,000 households outside the dike, the Tay Ha Noi Clean Water Supply Company is completing the installation of water network; 1,300 households have registered and connected to the source.
In the coming time, the Department of Construction and Hoai Duc district will urge the Tay Ha Noi Clean Water Company to complete the Son Dong booster station, striving to complete the electrical system for this station to operate by July. Thus, basically, the clean water supply in Hoai Duc has been resolved.
“It is expected that by 2024, Hanoi will complete water supply to 54 communes, by 2025, water supply to 70 communes and strive for 100% of communes to have clean water. However, once the network is completed, it is necessary to encourage people to use it. Localities are requested to promote this issue so that people can reduce their use of groundwater,” emphasized Director of the Department of Construction Vo Nguyen Phong.
