This year's crispy persimmon season, growers in Yen Du village (Duc Linh commune, Vu Quang, Ha Tinh) are happier because in addition to a good harvest and good prices, they also welcome more groups of visitors to experience the picking.
Every year, from mid-September to mid-October, people in Yen Du village, Duc Linh commune, rush to harvest crispy persimmons. From a tree species planted to create shade, Yen Du persimmons have now become a "specialty" tree that helps farmers prosper day by day.
While quickly harvesting persimmons for customers, Mr. Tran Van Hoan (Yen Du village, Duc Linh commune) said: "My family has nearly 140 crispy persimmon trees, all of which are growing well, bringing in a good income. Of which, 30 persimmon trees are over 50 years old, the rest were planted 15 years ago. This year, the persimmon garden has a yield of about 2.2 tons of fruit; with a selling price of 35 - 40 thousand VND/kg, it is estimated that by the end of the season, the family will earn about 100 million VND."
Mr. Tran Van Hoan (Yen Du village, Duc Linh commune) is harvesting persimmons for customers.
According to Mr. Hoan, although the number of rose bushes is large, the care is very easy, not as labor-intensive as growing oranges, but the income is much better. In the next rainy season, the family will plant about 40 more bushes to expand the area and sell seedlings to families who need to buy.
"In addition to selling fruit, my family also sells mature rose bushes. Each tree is 3-10 years old and I sell it for 5-25 million VND, depending on the size and age of the tree. Last year, my family sold 5 trees, earning nearly 40 million VND," said Mr. Hoan.
This year's persimmon season, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Hue's family (Yen Du village) estimates to harvest about 4.5 tons of persimmons.
Not far away, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Hue (Yen Du village) is also busy harvesting persimmons in the joy of a good harvest and good prices. Ms. Hue's family grows 200 persimmon trees, and this year is expected to yield more than 4.5 tons of fruit, about 500 kg higher than last year's crop.
Ms. Hue excitedly said: "This year, the hot weather has lasted for a long time, other fruit trees are suffering from drought, but the persimmon tree is still green and full of fruit. Although it is just the beginning of the season, customers from all over have been calling to place orders continuously, we have now sold nearly 2 tons, at 35 thousand VND/kg.
Currently, persimmons are sold at 35 thousand VND/kg in the garden.
According to Ms. Hue, in addition to a good harvest and good prices, this year Yen Du rose gardens also welcomed more groups of visitors to visit, experience and buy at home. This has made people more excited and proud of this specialty plant.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy (a tourist from Ha Tinh City) said: "I have enjoyed Yen Du crispy persimmons for a long time, but this is the first time my group of friends and I have come to visit and harvest them directly. Immersing ourselves under the ancient persimmon trees and enjoying trays of sweet crispy persimmons is truly an interesting experience. In the coming seasons, we will continue to visit Vu Quang and the Yen Du persimmon season."
Tourists come to visit and experience rose gardens in Yen Du village.
According to many tourists, Yen Du persimmons have a distinctive sweet taste, are especially crunchy and seedless. This has created a unique brand for this persimmon variety, and visitors will be impressed and remember it forever after eating it once.
In particular, in 2021, Yen Du persimmons were recognized as meeting 3-star OCOP standards. This is a great source of pride for persimmon growers here, determined to develop this plant sustainably, bringing safe and quality products to consumers.
The whole Yen Du village has about 40 hectares of rose cultivation.
Currently, the whole Yen Du village has about 40 hectares of land growing persimmons, belonging to 80 households. This year, despite the unfavorable weather, the persimmon trees still produce a lot of fruit, with a total output of over 45 tons. Currently, people are busy harvesting to sell to traders.
Growing roses helps people here have a stable life.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Vice Chairman of Duc Linh Commune People's Committee said: "The persimmon tree is gradually helping the people of Yen Du village stabilize their lives, actively contributing to the movement to eliminate mixed gardens and build new rural areas in the locality. Accompanying the people, the locality, in addition to supporting the development of products that meet 3-star OCOP standards, also connects regions to consume products, helping people sell at stable prices, increasing family income."
