Mr. Le Quang Ha - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Son Binh Commune said that the whole commune currently has over 400 hectares of durian growing area with 2 main varieties R6 and Dona. At the same time last year, the price of Dona only fluctuated between 65,000 - 70,000 VND/kg and R6 was 40,000 - 45,000 VND/kg.

However, this year many gardeners are preparing to sell at high prices, Dona 75,000 - 85,000 VND/kg and R6 50,000 - 55,000 VND/kg, with this selling price, many durian growers will certainly have high profits.

Mr. Mai Van Khang, in Cam Khanh village, Son Lam commune, Khanh Son district, said that his family grows over 10 hectares of durian. In recent days, the family has started to concentrate on working to harvest durian.
Mr. Khang said that last year his family harvested about 60 tons and this year he plans to sell about 100 tons. The selling price of durian this year is higher than previous years. Currently, the family sells R6 to traders for 55,000 VND/kg. Last year, the family only sold this type of durian for 42,000 VND/kg. With the above area, the family earns about 8 billion VND in profit after deducting expenses.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Dong - Vice Chairman of Khanh Son District People's Committee said that this year's durian price is the highest compared to previous years, so everyone is excited. Previously, people grew green-skinned grapefruit, mangosteen, and rambutan, but realizing that these crops were not very effective, many households boldly switched to growing durian.

Mr. Dong said that the whole district has about 2,700 hectares of durian, of which 15 growing area codes have been granted. The reason for the high price this year is because farmers are growing the crop out of season compared to other regions.
Durian is considered a local staple crop that helps farmers escape poverty and creates more jobs for people.
Currently, people grow durian mainly in Son Binh and Son Lam communes. It is known that in 2023, Khanh Son durian will bring in an income of more than 1,000 billion VND to farmers, of which more than 150 ethnic minority households have an income of more than 100 million VND/household from durian trees.
