Most localities organize entrance exams or combine exams and exams to enroll students in grade 10. Gia Lai and Vinh Long only organize entrance exams for grade 10 of non-specialized public high schools.

2025 is the year the first batch of students following the 2018 general education program will graduate from junior high school and high school. According to the junior high school and high school admission regulations recently issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, localities can choose to take entrance exams, consider admissions, or combine them to enroll 10th graders.
With the entrance exam option, the exam includes math, literature and a third subject (or a combined exam), the third subject is chosen by the Department of Education and Training, but a subject cannot be chosen for more than three consecutive years.
