On the occasion of the 98th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2023), Nguoi Dua Tin (NDT) had an interview with Dr. Nguyen Van Quyen - President of the Vietnam Lawyers Association about the role of the press in information work, policy propaganda, and legal education dissemination in the new context.

Investor: Could you please evaluate the activities of the press agencies under the Central Association during the past time?

Chairman Nguyen Van Quyen: The Vietnam Lawyers Association is a political - social - professional organization of lawyers nationwide. With more than 74,000 members who are lawyers who have worked and are working in agencies of the Party, State, Front, unions, economic organizations and universities, research institutes... operating in all fields of politics, economics, society, national defense and security...

Throughout its history of formation and development, the Vietnam Bar Association has always received attention from press agencies in disseminating legal policies.

I also appreciate the press agencies under the Central Association in actively disseminating information and propaganda about the organization and activities of the Association, not only at the Central Association but also at the association and provincial levels.

Along with that, the press of the Central Committee of the Association has also actively participated in propagating the Party's policies and viewpoints, the State's policies and laws; the policies and guiding viewpoints of the Party Delegation, the Standing Committee and the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Association...

Investor: Speaking specifically about the Life and Law Magazine, how does the Chairman evaluate the content that the Magazine has conveyed to the public over the past 20 years?

Chairman Nguyen Van Quyen: After more than 20 years of striving, building and growing, Life and Law Magazine has always accompanied the development of the Vietnam Lawyers Association. The content of many articles is of high quality, receiving the attention and support of readers. With the spirit of loving the profession, the desire to be attached to the newspaper and the Association for a long time, the staff, reporters and editors have overcome all difficulties to stick together and develop together like today.

The Association's leaders always put their trust in the activities of the Magazine and request that the Magazine continue to fulfill its principles and purposes, convey the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws and policies, and widely promote the activities of the Vietnam Lawyers Association. Provide truthful and accurate news, and guide public opinion in the right way.

Investor: On July 1, 2022, the Politburo issued Directive 14 on continuing to strengthen the Party's leadership over the Vietnam Lawyers' Association in the new situation. Since receiving the Directive, how does the President assess the information and propaganda work on the implementation of Directive 14 by the Lawyers' Association at all levels?

Chairman Nguyen Van Quyen : After receiving Directive 14 of the Politburo, on October 12, 2022, the Lawyers Association held a National Conference to implement it.

At the same time, the Vietnam Lawyers Association has also requested press agencies under the Central Association to strengthen the dissemination of information and propaganda on the implementation plan of Directive 14 of units, ministries, branches and Associations at all levels.

It can be said that press work is very important, contributing significantly to helping the general public better understand the position, role, functions and tasks of the Vietnam Lawyers Association in the new situation.

I highly appreciate and acknowledge the information and propaganda work on Directive 14 by the press agencies under the Central Association. Through the information reflected by the press, it helps people and members of the Bar Associations at all levels to understand more clearly the role of the Vietnam Bar Association.

Investor: As the Chairman has assessed, the press agencies under the Central Association have always actively propagated the Party's policies and guidelines, the State's laws, as well as Directive 14. So, according to the Chairman, what should the press agencies do in the coming time to bring Directive 14 closer to the majority of people?

Chairman Nguyen Van Quyen: In the current era of information explosion, the role and function of the press is increasingly affirmed. Journalists, reporters, and editors of press agencies in the system have actively followed the country's political tasks, promptly and vividly reflecting all aspects of life, society, the Party's policies and the State's laws.

Up to now, we have also received many plans to implement Directive 14 from localities, and the press agencies have also fully informed about these plans.

In the coming time, to bring Directive 14 closer to the majority of people, members of the Association at all levels, I think that the Association's press agencies need to develop a communication plan, focusing on the core contents of the Directive. Along with that, constantly innovate and improve the quality of news, articles, reports, etc.

Investor: So what do you expect from press agencies in general and press agencies under the Central Committee of the Vietnam Lawyers Association in particular in disseminating policies and laws?

Chairman Nguyen Van Quyen: Journalists are one of the forces on the front lines of the fronts; the press contributes to making people know, understand, follow, believe and do.

Every article, news or image in a press publication must spread good values.

During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh once advised: “Revolutionary journalism is a battle front of the revolution; journalism cadres are also revolutionary soldiers; pens and paper are their sharp weapons”. After 98 years of development and growth, under the leadership of the Party and the guidance of Uncle Ho, the Vietnamese revolutionary journalism has continuously grown in many aspects.

I believe that every article, news or image in a press publication must spread good values, create trust and consensus in society, and contribute to building a strong and prosperous Vietnam.

On the occasion of this special day, on behalf of the leadership of the Vietnam Lawyers Association, I would like to send my best wishes to all journalists. I hope that the press agencies will continue to accompany the Vietnam Lawyers Association.

At the same time, journalists of the Association's units need to continue to promote a sense of responsibility, solidarity, and strive to overcome difficulties to successfully complete assigned political tasks, operate in accordance with their principles and purposes, and continue to explore and innovate on a practical basis to produce quality journalistic works that meet the information needs of the people.
